“Not a comfortable stay”

Unfortunately my flight got delayed for a day so the airline decided to give us hotels to stay at (back when i was living in london). The hotel does have a great location, but the hotel wasn't very nice, the food was terrible, the walls were damp and the place had a weird smell, me and my cousin were put in a 4 bed room with an air condition that kept turning on and off and we woke up to the sound of building work, this isn't a luxury hotel, but somethings could have been done better.

in the last 6 years I have visited malta on many occassions always staying in the Metropole I have never experianced all the problemms that your travellers have. In fact I broke my ankle and had to stay 5 months staff were really good to me and apart for this year they have always been so. If you take into consideration that they were all losing their jobs .they were still extremely helpful .and I for one am sorry that the hotel is closing. I wish all the staff the very best and hope they all find work. joanne Edinburgh

“CHEAP & DIRTY”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2009

Well i have travelled a fair bit and if this is a 3* then im Joan of Arc.
Room rate was €58 but we got them down to €16 very basic hotel, if you want a base only then fine but the resturant was open only for breakfast (dirty cups / dirty bowls / moody staff)then the Bar opened at 7pm in between nothing was available but we were out all day so this didnt bother us at all, we heared that in the summer of 2009 they had cockroaches!!! and that they want to close down the hotel by end nov 09. The only good thisng was the location, just one street off Tower road and 10mins walk to St Julians or 15mins into main Sliema. you wont find cheaper in this area but ....if you can afford and want a nice hotel pay another €20 a night and enjoy the hotel rather than feel a little let down...oh and the pool ha ha ha it was a pond with chairs thrown all around no pool bar no towels and the hotel towels were so thin i could see through them and white no more like green.

“Great Deal, Not a Great Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2009

I stayed in this hotel for two nights by myself. The location of the hotel is great, extremely close to the beach and bus stops. The staff was neither friendly nor unfriendly. The hallway had a musty odor and was in need of a renovation. My room, though also musty, was clean and had a working AC. The TV was broken but I didn't try to get it fixed or change rooms. The breakfast consisted of nothing more than toast and hard-boiled eggs and the dinner was overpriced so I didn't eat there. This is not a nice hotel by any means but it was definitely worth the price I paid (about 30 USD/night). It is fine for a place to sleep but not if you're going to be spending time in your room.

“Budget stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2009

Stayed in this hotel for 4 nights during a cheap break to Malta. Hotel is in a fantastic location near the busy tourist area of St Julians and just a short (15 min) bus journey from the capital Valletta, at a cost of just 47 cents.
Hotel is very basic, but has beds and air conditioning, what else do you need if the only time you spend there is sleeping! Rooms were relativity clean, although poorly decorated and the shower was of little use. Paid extra for a balcony room which was a waste of money as the balcony had one plastic chair and air conditioning unit and no room for any thing else, so unless you want to sit outside on your own I would not bother.
Breakfast was limited to cereals, toast, cheese and ham, most of the time the plates/bowls could have done with a wash and the staff were not very interested in cleaning used tables or replenishing the food..... get there early!
Reception staff were very helpful and in response to earlier reviews, we found the hotel to be one of the quietest we have stayed in..... don't believe all you read.
Good for a budget stay.
