“Winter Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Just returned after spending a week here.
We upgraded to a superior room which on the 5th floor or above offers larger more spacious rooms, well worth it, we also had a sea view which was great to wake up to.
Rooms were very clean, and tastefully decorated with plenty of hot water for showers etc.
Not much of a bar area but there is the coffee bar downstairs which is attached to the hotel for coffee, cakes etc.
My only dislike was the breakfast, there wasen't a lot of choice and became boring after the 3rd morning. The bacon was not really cooked so I stuck mainly to the eggs, it was a shame really, this could be inproved upon but it got you started for the day.
The new indoor pool was good if you wanted a quick swim.
Overall a good base at a decent price, would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose superior rooms 5th floor or above.

“Good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Wonderful location, midway between Sliema centre and St., Julians Bay, which are both a short walk in opposite directions. On the whole experience, liked the hotel, and staff were very helpful and friendly. Our only disappointment was the variety and quality of food in the penthouse restaurant, which was often overcooked and not very hot. Facilities at hotel good, especially enjoyed the indoor pool and Cara's coffee shop where they do delicious food( try the meringue cream gateau with cherry on top, it was heavenly, and very moreish). Hotel is very clean and room was spacious, with adequate storage. Tele was another disappointment as only two English channels, BBC world news and the other was shared with other languages. Transport very good, bus stops virtually outside hotel, and the buses are very frequent. Also quite economical, a day ticket costs just under £2 and lasts all day, like a rover ticket here.

“The Hotel that saved our holiday.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

This is a hotel that is a three star and should be a four star.... We came to malta to stay at the Windsor hotel for a month but had to move out because our holiday was being ruined by 65 unruley students, a report which I have fully reported on the windsor hotel site. Any way we and at least 10 other couples asked the Plaza to give us accommodation and this is my report of this hotel. When we arrived we were sown to a really nice room which had its own small kitchen fully equipped with a fridge sink unit cooker microwave, toaster pots and pans, every thing you could possibly need to cater for yourselves. The furniture was realy nice with a large wardrobe contain iron and ironing board and electonic safe and draws, glass covered table tops on bedside and dressing table and there was a seperate table and chairs to eat on if you needed it.,We had a small balcony big enough for us to sit on and a seccond airy window to the other side of the room. the bed was two large singles which were zipped together to make one big bed which was very comfortable and roomy. They added nice litlle extras siuch as nice bedside lamps and a large head board and nice pictures to make a long stay all the more homely. Our bathroom contained a large shower sink and toilet and was spotless. Our bedding was changed weekly and our towells daily. The hotel had a great sunbathing area with a pool to the roof and also a lovely warm pool and jacussi in the basement one that you did not have to hesitate to enter into. They also provided ladies and gents changing rooms with piping hot showers in them. The resturant was large and airy on the sixth floor with lovely views over Slimea harbour and sea front, by night this was spectacular to have your evening meal in. It was very well managed and although there was a lot of people in the hotel we did not have to stand in long queues, and the food was very nice, but did slightly get a bit repetative towards the end of our months stay, but we had the kitchen if we wanted to eat in and do it ourselves or there are so many great resturants so near by if one did get a bit board you could easily just go out to eat. But the breakfasts were great, plenty of it, lots of choice, toaster a bit slow but that is all I could say was wrong with the dining room and hay its the same in any hotel where these roll on roll off toasters are concerned. Our tables were cleared as we ate and we never had trouble finding sa table sit at. Top Marks here......

there was entertainment five nights a week and for January that was in my opinion very good. The lounge was small witha bar and the music therefore was a tad too loud for my liking but there was plenty of nice seating in the reception area which was served by a very nice cafe which you could eat or just take coffee inside or out.

The staff were first class lead by their Asst. Gerneral magager Anthony M. Ellul. I was so impressed by this gentleman, he was so hands on the type of person who if he could not do the job himself he would not ask his staff to do it. He never stopped all day and still had time to greet his guests and see to any problems they may have had. Just simply to have the time to come over and say good morning was enough for me. He greeted us on arrival and made sure he was there to say goodbye ., Which just gave it that special touch. This to me was a five star manager let alone a four which this hotel should be, certainly not a three star. Come on Malta authorities do some up grading here, it is time you did.

the hotel is right on the front and is right by the bus stops going each way, with busses that will take you all over the island with cheap weekly hop on hop off tickets which are great. Or the hotel cn arrnge trips for you. There are plenty of shops and bars which will not break the bank, So I highly reccommend this hotel.....

All in all our stay at the Plaza saved our holiday, thank you Tony and your staff, If we come back to Malta we will certainly come to your hotel,,,,,,,

Room Tip: All you have to do is tell the reception what you want and if they have it, it will be yours. The su...

“Rudest reception staff on island”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

people found this review helpful

Was booked in here for long term stay in Nov/Dec'11. Dismayed to discover I had been allocated a small room with no window. I joined the queue of other guests complaining along the same lines. Initial reaction of reception staff was 'so what' but after 2 days was moved to another room with a small window with narrow view of rear buildings. Was quoted 3 euros/day for kettle! Prospect of spending several weeks in this hotel galvanised me to organised move to The Windsor Hotel (4*) where staff were very welcoming and I had kettle (available free on request)/fridge and balcony at a small additional cost. Worth every penny. Would advise travellers to Malta to be aware that a 4* rating there is equivalent to 3* elsewhere. Don't dive into any rooftop pool - hypothermia could set in very quickly!

Was disappointed to find bendy buses and with exception of shoe shopping - found everything to be more expensive than anticipated. However, natives are very friendly, there are many wonderful sights to see and the weather was great for the time of year.

Room Tip: If you do not get what you understood to have been booked for you - dig your heels in!

“Location good to catch local transport”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

No porter service or a ramp for disabled guests@ the MAIN enterance & rail not very sturdy too.One has to climb few stairs stairs with own luggage. Not safe for elderly guests.Only plus point in a good location to catch local buses. Very poor on room cleaning, changing beds & loo paper of really very poor quality would recommend to take your own andrex. Could do with replacing their stock of bath towels too as now they've gone past it use by date. BREAKFAST: needs training in frying/grilling bacon. Baked beans very watery too. Fried eggs soaking in oil & at times had burnt underside. No tomatoes.Local fruit excellent quality as baked on premises.DINNER:meat very water logged. Not much for vegetarians just pasta.Plus point ALL staff in Dining Rm very good & so were all the 3 receptionists, esp: Maria/Kelly.Think anyone who needs customer service training is the deputy manager, who some of us found very condocending & rude. Not very good on providing service as to him it seems like chore. TV service is crap.Only BBC World Service was worth viewing!

Room Tip: Pay xtra to go on 5th flr for superior rm with a seaview otherwise will end up with a room looking i...
