“Comfortable home for a week's diving”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed at Calypso Hotel last June for our week's diving holiday.

The rooms are clean and comfortable - we paid a little extra for a sea view room which was worth it - our travel buddy had a single room with a less appealing view of the building next door. The bathroom was very clean with a bathtub, although pretty cramped. Oh, and the beds were very hard.

Breakfast is served in the dining room which has a nice view of the harbour, buffet style with a very good selection of food - omelettes made to order, fresh fruit and a plethora of pastries. The dinner itself was less impressive - we dined in one night during which a set three course meal was served. It was average and certaintly not as good as our dinners out.

On the other hand, the rooftop restaurant had good bar food - chicken nuggets and chips were a favourite, and quite reasonably priced. The pool was a good size, although we didn't actually get in it having spent our days in the sea diving.

We found the staff to be very average - not overly friendly, but got the job done. The staff at the roof bar were, however, very nice and provided a high quality of service.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Calypso Hotel. It was clean, comfortable and very well located - less than 5 minutes walk to our dive centre, Gozo Aqua Sports which we highly recommend (see review). We booked through Olympic Holidays and thought the package of flight and hotel (B&B) was very good value.

When we next come back to dive, we will certainly stay here again.

“Our favourite hotel in Gozo is being refurbished - with guests inside....”

We stayed at the Calypso a few times and it is generally good value for money hotel accommodation in Gozo . The hotel is now getting due for a refurbishment - and indeed they have started works in the cafeteria. But in my opinion with paying guests in the hotel you should not conduct works involving pneumatic hammers until 7pm on a Friday, and starting from 8am on a Saturday! Our quiet weekend break was partially ruined by the noise - and to add insult to the injury, on Sunday morning with the door marked DND, a housekeeper knocked and needed to enter the room to check the minibar! Before our next weekend break in Gozo I will be performing some research.....................

“Worst hotel ever.”

dirty, rude staff, terrible food, smelly rooms. I could believe myself when first enterred this hotel. the floor was slippery after some cleaner mopped the floor and not even a sign! The receptionist was picking his nose in front of us and that was disgusting! when we enterred the room I noticed a strange smell like the smell of old garbage and the bathroom was filthy. The food was terrible.. at breakfast, the plates were very dirty and geasy, the scrambled eggs smelled and tasted like soap. to be honest, dinner was fine but the rest was a warning never to enter this 'hotel' again!...

“Away from it all!”

Following a hectic end to 2011, my wife and myself booked a short holiday at the Hotel Calypso in Gozo. We had a serene vacation which the island of Gozo is well reknowned for : away from the hustle and bustle of towns. We appreciated the gesture by the hotel staff when they upgraded our inland room to one facing the sea. From the balcony, just gazing at the immensity of the sea and the waves crashing against the rocks was very relaxing. Top up this with a good buffet breakfast and a quiet dinner served by freindly staff and we had the perfect holiday!

Room Tip: rooms facing the sea are a bonus!

“A VERY GOOD HOTEL”

The Calypso is very clean and rooms have lots of space and a great view overlooking the bay,the staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome, nothing seems too much bother for them. The new years eve gala was excellent
The only let downs are the lack of tea @ coffee facilities in the rooms and the set evening meals were a little indifferent.

Room Tip: Choose a room with view of the bay
