“Refined comfort in the capital of cool”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We had a great experience at the Nordica overall. Our room was just what we needed - a base to chill out in during a busy few days of seeing Reykjavik plus a couple of trips out of the city. The location is ok, it's a good 15 min walk along a main road into city centre though. However, we made use of the hotel's free shuttle bus service, which runs in the morning and evening. A taxi was under £10.

We treated ourselves one night to eating in the hotel restaurant - food was excellent and not as expensive as I feared! Overall actually Iceland, with a devalued Kroner, was mre affordable hen expected. A beer was typically £5-6, although many bars do half price happy hour deals, which are worth taking advantage of!

Staff are very polite and unobtrusive, in the Icelandic way, but happy to talk if you iniditiate it. One annoyance was not having to ask twice to get non feather bedding, and late one evening being unable o get replacement coffe making supplies.

Overall though, a very classy hotel, in a handy enough spot. I would stay again, although next time I may try to get somewhere more central.

“Great hotel for business or leisure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I stayed here in January with an icelandair package. I really liked the hotel although I would describe it as a business hotel. But it was very clean and the room was updated and had everything I needed. It is a long way from the center of town but the shuttle runs occasionally or we just took a taxi. Some of the tours we took picked up at the hotel and on the way back we were the first stop. We ate at both the bistro and the Vox restaurant one night. It was pricey but perhaps not that much more if you consider taking a taxi to and from town. There is a 7/11 type store just around the corner and I noticed a pharmacy next door. The do provide a hot pot in the room with instant coffee and teas. I always bring Starbucks via with me so this was a welcome addition. As part of the package we were given one pass to the spa. Nothing to write home about. It was crowded with locals who use it as their health club.

“Top-Notch Business Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Very comfortable European-style rooms, all business amenities, free wi-fi, wonderful breafkast buffet in restaurant. Nice spa. Bus stop directly out front, easy to get to downtown shopping, also a nice 15-minute walk into downtown.

Room Tip: Facing the bay

“Four days in iceland”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

The hotel is adequate ,it's clean, the staff is friendly and helpful. We upgraded to the top floor. The view was nice but there was absolutely no place to put your clothes. There was a cabinet were you could hang a few things, and two very small draws. We had to live out of out of our suitcases. I hate that. The bed was two twins pushed together.the location was about a 15 minute walk to the downtown area.

“A 4.5* button would be helpful...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We stayed here in November as part of an Iceland Air package tour. On arrival we asked how much an upgrade was to the Exec Floor, and decided as it included entrance to the Exec lounge it was worth it for us. We were given a stunning room on the 9th floor right at the end of the corridor, which had an extra panel of window so you could see Reykjavik town and the mountains/sea. The room was exceptionally clean and the daily maid service was excellent. Comfy bed. Great pillow selection. Lots of space.

Location
This hotel is a little out-of-town, but we actually really enjoyed the walks and it is only about 20 minutes away.

Food
We mainly ate in the Exec Lounge where breakfast and evening snacks (very varied and regularly replenished) are served, but we did eat at Vox on our last night. Atmosphere was good, open kitchen nice to see and old excellent. A little pricey, but no more so that eating in a good restaurant in the uk.

Exec lounge
Well worth the price, apart from the room upgrade, you get breakfast and supper, free alcoholic drinks for a couple of hours in the evening and the lounge is in an elevated position with great views across the bay and of the Yoko Ono tower. Also free soft drinks, teas and coffees thought the day.

Hotel
Free wi-fi throughout. Large coved smoking terrace. Excellent concierge and trip booking service.

Spa
Outside hot tub and sauna nice. Steam rooms not working. Complimentary back massage in the hot tub welcome, but felt a little put off by a gentleman who was known to the staff, who insisted on following you around. Would not have payed to use the spa (was included as part of the Exec package).

All in all a great stay. Would recommend.
