“you get what you pay for.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2010

We stayed have because there was no other rooms avaible. Found the place very old and ruin down but the amount of time spent in the room was worth the cheap price. We had a private room, very clean with a small kitchen. On the plus side close to city centre, breakfast was good and cheap price. on the downside very old, water smells like sulfar. The owner does take 30 mins to show up but was pleasant.

“Unpleasant stay with the highest level of discomfort”

The rudest owner on the planet must be Einar, who 'ru(i)ns' a quite cheap guesthouse.
If you are travelling by car, be sure that there's NO parking lot for you, which is obviously the opposite to what you are promised on their website.
As mentioned by others there is NO reception, you have to wait for him to come and give you the keys. Then all he does is to keep repeating how much you have to pay for the room, like you were a complete idiot. While other staff are quite helpful, Einar makes this place a disturbing one, that no one wants to visit anymore.
I have to admit that this guesthouse is quite a cheap solution to your stay in Reykjavík, but do consider to pay a little more, to enjoy icelandic hospitality as this truly exists, but not in this place.
For all of us who were ashamed (and that's not an overstatement) please make us a favour and avoid this place.

“Not terribly convenient, but comfortable”

This was the cheapest place we could find at the time, as the hotels were all outrageously expensive. The breakfast was questionable but the staff were nice and did their best to help us with things to do in the city. We loved Iceland, but would not likely come back to this place.

“Worst thing about Iceland”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2009

Staying in this guesthouse was the only bad experience on our trip around Iceland, for several reasons:
1 - There is no reception at this guesthouse. Upon arrival you are instructed to call the manager, assuming you happen to have a mobile with you, who then arrives to check you in, not without making you wait at least 30 minutes.
2 - The manager is the worst thing about the guesthouse. He is the rudest, most unhelpful manager I have ever encountered; arguing with his staff, never around to help you, and treats you as if he is doing you a favour by letting you stay at his appalling hostel.
3 - After waiting for 30 minutes to check in, the manager informed us that we would be staying in a shared apartment elsewhere in the city. He stuffed us into his tiny car and drove at high speed to a set of apartments that were an additional 15 minutes walk further from the centre. This was not mentioned when we booked the hostel, and was extremely disappointing. On our return to Reykjavik, a week later, we stayed in the main guesthouse. However, hygiene and quality of facilities is an issue at both premises.
4 - Security is a major issue: a kind member of staff permitted us to leave our large bags in the hostel for the day, as we had a flight home later that afternoon. However, upon returning to the guesthouse, a significant number of items had been stolen from one of our bags. Two homeless drug-addicts had walked straight into the hostel, rummaged through our things, and then decided to have a short nap on one of the dorm beds. A large arguement broke out between ourselves, the manager, and these squatters, with me demanding my stuff back. The manager eventually ''pulled his finger out'' and called the police, but with some reluctance. After a short visit to the police station, our property was eventually returned.
5 - All the other facilities in the guesthouse are either inadequate, broken or dirty. Tiny breakfast room, only two showers (both of which were filthy), and two toilets for the entire hostel (one of which was broken)!

I hope that word spreads about this hostel, and it is forced to change or go out of business. Don't ruin your experience in Iceland by staying at this awful place.

“Worst holiday experience ever. Rude, aggresive, unhelpful owner”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2009

Our owner cancelled our pre-booked car with him at the last minute without any notice. The next day whilst we were trying to arrange a new car, he entered our room without knocking. He then insisted we must leave an hour earlier than agreed. When I declined, he lunged into the face of my girlfriend and told her sarcastically "thanking you for being so helpful". Generally, when you arrive you have to call him - if he's having his dinner, you have to wait 40 minutes for him to finish. 3 or 4 other guests were having difficulties with him whilst we were there - forcing them to switch rooms, cancelling their car as well etc. The rest of our Iceland trip was wonderful, and Einar was the only person we met who was not incredibly warm and friendly. Without this, it would have been the best holiday I've had - avoid this place!!!
