“a fun experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Stayed for a week & enjoyed the stay. Our room was tiny but clean & comfortable, it's quirky modern design was a novelty.
Breakfast was a civilized affair & always well presented & well organised. Lots of choice, great quality.
Location was really good, central & within close walking distance to shops, restaurants and harbour.
The only negatives were the main door which was very heavy and difficult to push open and the 'mood' lighting which was not kind to the eyes.

Room Tip: the standard rooms are very small, if you like a bit of space do not settle for a standard room.

“Little Haven of luxury and relaxation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

This hotel is on the edge of the main high street and perfect for restaurants and shopping. Do not judge it by the outside, the inside was amazing. We were upgraded to the love suite, which was on a split level and had double plasma tvs on the wall, large leather sofas and great shower. The lady on reception always seemed to be there as was so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. She liased with all our day excursion companies and would check weather forcasts etc., The lounge/bar area was very modern and was a haven of relaxation, I loved the fact that guests felt able to take shoes off and relax on the large leather sofas and read and relax. I liked this as we had a drink after a evening out and felt so at ease and took my boots off too. The breakfast was a nice dining room, very modern. Selection was fairly good. The people we travelled with had the hot self serve breakfast which they said was not hot, but we were very early as we were going out. Internet in the lobby is free, but you have to stand at the eye level stand. It was not very private as it was next to reception desk and everyone could look at what you were looking at. I would not give less rating than excellent because we had such a lovely stay there that the minor things could not outweigh our wonderful experience. Thank you Thingholt.

Room Tip: Our party were upgraded to the Love suite and the Junior Suite, both were excellent. Junior suite h...

“Discreet cool!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

A friend and I travelled here for the weekend and it was the perfect base for exploring Reykjavik. The rooms and beds are stylishly turned out and comfortable. A little bit of industrial chic. Our room had a rainfall type shower which was great to stand under after the cold wintery weather outside.

There is a bar that has a happy hour in the reception, you can book all island excursions via reception and get picked up from outside of the hotel. We went to the Blue Lagoon, which I would strongly recommend to soak off your travels and any night time excess.

In terms of location it is in a quiet side street just off the main strip through town, quite a few bars, coffee shops and restaurants are close to hand as well as many retail outlets.

There was a reasonable range of items for breakfast, however some of the warm breakfast was not so warm when we ate there.

The female receptionist through the day was very pleasant, polite and efficient at booking our excursions, general queries and local knowledge.

It is worth googling Reykjavik happy hour and the day you are there to see where the offers for drinks are, a 0.5l beer can work out at about £2 during happy hour. This city can be very expensive, but with a little bit of planning is not too bad. Prikid close by is good for pancakes and free coffee refills, Laundromat Cafe is a pretty cool place to relax and watch passers-by and if you like hot-dogs, the guy near the harbour sells really goot ones for not a lot of money.

Cool hotel, cool city worth considering for a long weekend, only wish I'd had another couple of days.

“Really enjoyed our stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Got a great deal on this Hotel so for the price it was amazing for what we got - a very central hotel (we walked everywhere around Reykjavik) and I liked the decor. It was a bit odd - plain concrete walls and an MDF door with no finishings on it SOUND odd - but somehow it works. Only decor thing I wasnt too keen on was the shower - (itself was lovely and powerful) as the conrete changed colour when wet - the patches made it almost look like it was mouldy? It definitely wasnt though. The room was very clean. The staff were helpful and polite - they didnt smile too much but would do anything to help you - our travel adaptor broke and the night guy lent us his own adaptor as long as we could get it back to him before his shift ended (we were up early anyways so this wasnt a problem).

We had a room on the ground floor which felt a bit odd as it was literally just off from the bar - however this wasnt busy the weekend we were there so didnt bother us - although you had to go to reception and get a key after about 8pm to get into the first door before the room. At nigth (Fri + Sat) we heard some nightlife noise - but nothing to stop us from sleeping. The only problem I thought was other rooms and guest's alarms going off at 3/4/5am which woke me as they got up for trips and the airport shuttle.

Breakfast was absolutely fine - nice selection (hotel eggs are usually dubious but they were tasty), fresh fruit, lovely fresh bread, a few cereals and plenty to drink. They even put on some pastries/tea/coffee/juice at 5am for those having an early flight back.

In all - a lovely hotel - its not the Ritz, its not the massive lap of luxury, but I wouldnt hesitate to stay again or recommend to others.

“Great modern hotel in city centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Stayed here for 4 nights during January - and loved the central location. Very easy and quick to get out and about! The interior design of this hotel is amazing, with lots of great furnishings.
Room was clean and comfy. Breakfast buffet was good and there was a lot of both hot and cold food to choose from.

There were a couple of lightbulbs not working in the room, which made it quite dark. We didn't really get time to report this, but kept hoping that the cleaner would make sure that they got replaced, but it didn't happen. Staff were very helpful though, so I'm certain that it would have been fixed if we had mentioned it.

If you are on the tall side, watch out to keep your head low, as there are lots of low hanging lights around... however we found that this is the case for most places in Iceland, so probably a more general comment!

Would definately recommend this place if you want to be close to all the bars and restaurants that Reykjavik has to offer.
