My partner and I decided to spend a couple of days visiting Iceland on our way to Amsterdam. This hotel was offering very competitive rates and the reviews were generally okay, so we thought we'd give it a chance. We were very pleased with our choice.

The service from the front desk staff was consistently professional and helpful. They were always happy to answer our questions, and gave us some great insider information on places to eat.

We had a room away from the street. It was small, but comfortable and quiet. We did have trouble operating the television, but didn't bother asking for assistance since we spent so little time in our room. I could see where rooms facing the main street might be loud, but we didn't have that problem.

The breakfast is very simple with limited selection, but what is offered is of good quality.

The location is hard to beat. The hotel is in the middle of the city, within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, bars, and attractions. Reykjavik Excursions will pick you up right at the hotel and take you to the bus depot to join your tour or transfer to the airport.

The Vesturbaejar pool is within walking distance of the hotel, and soaking in its hot spots is the best way to finish off a day of sightseeing.

This isn't a luxury hotel, but provides good quality accommodation and should be considered if the rates are competitive.

Firstly we were given a dingy dark room and i'm not one to usually complain but we politely asked if we could change rooms. They probably found that annoying but they got us another room.

This hotel was very central but was a bit noisy on thursday night as the hotel bar was busy, I went and politely asked for earplugs and they had some. Friday don't know as went to sleep early with earplugs.

The receptionists were not that friendly even though I was very polite and spoke some basic icelandic but I noticed that in other hotels too.

The hotel was quite busy with some Americans that were being very noisy. I have no idea why. I have nothing against Americans but they were the only voices I seemed to hear, everyone else was talking quietly. Sorry but thats the truth.

Breakfast was quite busy but nice.

It was not a cosy hotel.

I prefered the centerhotel klopp.
I would stay at the hotel plaza again but only if other hotels were not available.

Great location, comfortable rooms, make sure you request a room away from the street!

This hotel is located in a great location for seeing all of Reykjavik though the street noise is a bit of a pain! The rooms were small but fairly comfortable.
There is no air conditioning so when it's warm (as it was the entire time we were there), you need to leave your windows open. This isn't an issue if you're a sound sleeper or have a room that is away from the street. However, ours was on the first floor right next to the street. With it never getting truly dark in the summer, people are out and about all night long (especially the motorcycle group that meets in the plaza out front) making for some noisy conditions to sleep in.
The bathrooms were probably the worst part. The showers leaked everywhere, literally flooding the bathroom every time, and the smell of sulfur from the naturally hydrothermal heated waters was pretty gross.
Do not plan on doing laundry at this hotel. Several colleagues did small loads through the front desk and it cost between $80 and $200 US!!!
There was wifi in the lounge and ethernet in the room but the internet was ridiculously slow so don't plan on uploading many pictures from your hotel room. I literally left my computer uploading 40 pictures overnight and only 20-something were done by morning.
The room's electricity is controlled by your room key. You put your key into a slot on the wall and then the plugs and lights work. Great for the environment I suppose but horrible for leaving things charging (such as batteries) when you're out and about unless you have 2 keys (in which case the maid will take the one you leave behind so put a "Do no disturb" sign on the door).
Overall I wouldn't be against staying here again, if for nothing else for the location and the very nice front desk staff (who had no problems opening the bar back up at 4 AM for us and letting us leave small bags while we travelled for a few days to central Iceland).

The Hotel Plaza has a great location within Reykjavil. Shops, restaurants and bars are walking distance.

The hotel its self is modern, clean and well kept. The rooms again are of ample size with decent bathrooms (be prepaired for the icelandic water smell...but really good for your skin and hair).

The hotel staff are really friendly and helpful, give you plenty of tips of what to do and where to go. The mini buses for most trips pick you up directly outside the hotel as well.

Whilst in Reykjavik we did some of the usual sight seeing, Blue lagoon, Gulfoss waterfall & the Geyser's. All of which are definately worth seeing!

It goes with out saying that eating out and drinking is very expense in Iceland, so be prepaired before you go.

Great hoilday and will defo go back at some point!

Hotel Plaza is also called Center Hotel Plaza. It's the most centrally located hotel which means you are near the restaurants, visitor centers, tourist shops, main shopping district ( Laugavegur and Bankastræti) and the Grayline excursion center (5 min. walk). Old Harbor, the pier for whale watching excursion is about 15 min. walk. One block over is Hotel Reykjavik Centrum.

Best location to stay in Reykjavik is in or near the City Center or Laugavegur shopping district if you want city life amenities. Otherwise it's mostly residential. No need to worry about noise from the street since it's not as loud or busy as others make it sound - but then I am from NY. This hotel appears to be two connecting buildings. The old (front) is larger and have a better view vs. the new addition in back. I prefer the front. Overall hotel is typical of Iceland's "top" hotels which means sparse amenities, modern, clean, and polite multi-tasked staff. The front desk person is also the bartender and concierge so it's hard to get quick service during busy periods. Plaza hotel also has CNN and SKY news and no Internet connection. Overall comfortable hotel and very good location.

Free continental breakfast was good despite being standard Iceland fare which includes buffet with hot eggs and sausages/bacon, cold cuts, cereals, fresh breads, porridge/oatmeal, yogurt and fruits. You'll need to find a hotel with breakfast since most restaurants don't open until 9 am.
