Very clean hotel remodeled in the past few years. Hotel is in the very center of town so you can walk just about anywhere in town. Small TV in room was a bit old school but we didn’t go there to Iceland to watch Seinfeld re-runs. Staff can arrange day trip, make hotel reservations, warn you away from certain tourist traps, all with a good nature and never a sense that you are intruding when you ask for help. Americans should really try and book a room with as large as bed as they have available. If you get anything larger than a queen you will find that they have strapped two smaller beds together to make a larger one – You find that more and more outside the US. Again location is really important. Before you book a room, look on a tourist map and locate the house that Reagan and Gorbachov met and then plan on avoiding any hotel within half a mile of there. Yes, that’s where some of the internationally know hotels are and the restaurant Vox is not to be missed, but otherwise it’s a boring stretch of highway, convenience stores that close early and winding edge of town roads that may be interesting the first walk. But for me nothing beats being able to get back to your hotel walking in 5 minutes should you suddenly need to, or being able to walk out of the hotel at 4 in the morning to get something to eat or drink. Daily breakfast was Nordic and not bad for $ 20 bucks a person but the coffee could be better. It’s a lot like having breakfast in Sweden, but not nearly as nice a spread as you’ll find in even the most modest hotels in Stockholm. I would happily stay there again. By the way, since we flew into town from the US and arrived around 8:00am, they were happy to clean a vacant room within 20 minutes, upgraded us to a mini suite and all at no additional charge. When we checked out they were happy to lock up our luggage, so we could spend our remaining hours walking through town.
Room Tip: Try and get a bigger bed and you may end up with a larger room.
