“excellent city centre location”

we chose this hotel after reading all the trip advisor reviews and were not disappointed.
it was located 5 mins from the main street of bars and restaurants and there was plenty of choice of places to eat within walking distance.
useful if you have no transport although we had hired a car.
the hotel breakfast was good value, plenty of choice and yes the fresh waffle maker was something different.
tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms were replenished frequently which was a useful touch and rooms were large and very clean.we upgraded to the seaview rooms which were larger than the "historic" rooms although we never really saw the view in the daylight to appreciate it. it is dark in Iceland in the winter! we were very lucky to see the northern lights-didnt realise how unpredictable the sightings actually are. check conditions before you get your hopes up.
staff on the front desk were really friendly and so helpful. very knowledgable and eager to make our stay enjoyable, they helped us plan our itinerary.
we would definitely stay here again next time when we hope to come whale watching.
highly recommended.

Room Tip: get the seaview negative-we had a shower but a hot bath would have been nice some days

“Excellent choice for short break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I would highly recommend this hotel for its location, friendly staff and breakfast! We were delighted with our choice of hotel for a three night break and although the rooms were not large they were more than adequate for the duration of our stay. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and to top it all we got to see the Northern Lights!! A fantastic trip to Iceland leaving us all with a deep desire to return.

“good basic hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

the fooshotel baron is a good decent 3 star hotel. Dont expect luxury and you will enjoy it. The rooms are basic as is the whole hotel but the staff are extremely helpful and know everything about the local area. They assist without question and are very good at their job. The breakfast is adequate and the soup in the evening sets you up nicely for the northern lights excursion.
If i was to go back to the area i would stay here again.
The northen lights were fantastic ( we were very lucky to see them as the previous 3 nights trips had been cancelled) and you must visit the blue lagoon. All in all a very pleasant no frills hotel.

“Good location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Hotel has a good location with very helpful & friendly staff. Breakfast (continental plus) good (only soup available at hotel in evening, but restaurants nearby). Cash machine one street away. 24 hr supermarket (not allowed to sell alcohol & it's VERY expensive anyway!) behind hotel (if on a budget consider upgrading to a studio room with cooking facilities as you may find it's expensive to eat & drink in Iceland). Rooms are small but if you upgrade to studio they are larger. As our visit was in January it was important that we found the hotel nice & warm.

“Excellent three start, fantastic staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This hotel is conveniently situated for central Reykjavik and although the rooms are not luxurious the buffet breakfast is very good and the reception staff are brilliant and extremely helpful. You can upgrade to a studio room which gives you lots of space and a small kitchenette - worth knowing in a city where restaurant prices are high. Definitely recommended.
