“Staff excellent plus other observations”

I agree with most that has been said here, Staff friendly, small but adequate rooms, linen clean etc.
However I would not book excursions via the Iceland Air site as they are to be found cheaper in the hotel, ask for advive form the knowledgable staff, We saved 2850ISK each on Blue Lagoon via Bustravel.{thats £16 each} all operators pick up and deliver back to your hotel.
Another thing I havent seen mentioned is the dinner {meals are very expensive usually} The hotel does a fixed price dinner for 1450ISK {£8.50} this consists of Salad, Just one hot option differs each day, fresh fruit, coffee/tea etc and cold drinks. payable to lady just inside door.

Room Tip: Dont stay on ground floor, too noisy

“Good value for money”

My friend and I stayed at the Hotel Cabin as part of a Northern Lights weekend package she'd booked with IcelandAir. We had booked a basic twin room and were not disappointed. I expected something basic and clean and that is what I got. The room was very small but perfectly formed, with two comfortable beds, a TV and an excellent power shower. Towels were changed daily and the room was clean. The furniture was a bit old and there was no hairdryer, so make sure you bring your own.

The staff were friendly and helpful. They updated us on our Northern Lights tour and provided me with a toothbrush when I realised I'd forgotten mine. The breakfast was basic (cereal, ham, cheese, toast, yoghurt, tea & coffee) but filling. There is a petrol station opposite with a small supermarket and a Subway, where we bought a few snacks. You can easily walk into central Reykjavik along the sea path which is very pretty. This took us about 20 mins so although the hotel isn't central, it's a pleasant walk into the centre. A taxi one way cost us about 1,500 krona (£7).

If you want somewhere cheap and cheerful then I would recommend staying here, however don't expect anything above basic.

“Staff willing and able to offer advice and suggestions on itinerary”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Myself and my wife were accompanied by my daughter and son-in-law.
We found that in the Cabin Hotel the rooms are cabin size (approx 8 feet x 8 feet) and walls are 'paper-thin'. Luckily we didn't have noisy neighbours but my daughter and son-in-law staying farther down the corridor did.
On complaining, the staff were most helpful and spoke with the noisy occupants after which the noise abated. The following morning my daughter and son-in-law were transferred to another room.
Overall the rooms and bathrooms were spotlessly clean, comfortable and warm.
Breakfast was a cold buffet (ham, cheese, eggs, tomato, cucumber, yoghurt, cereal) with a good variety of breads.
All the staff were very friendly, spoke good English and were both willing and able to offer advice and suggestions on our itinerary, arrange taxis and coach trips..
All prices in Iceland are extremely expensive but I must say the quality of goods is excellent and overall it was a very pleasurable experience.

“nice basic hotel for a reasonable price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

My friends and myself stayed at this hotel for 6 days, The rooms are small but just enough if you are not looking for luxury knowing the price is not too expensive in an expensive country and the breakfast is fairly ok.Clean and the location is not too far away from the city centre by bus but can be consider far by foot. The staff are so friendly, helpfull and iffecient and they know how to answer most our questions. They are very helpful and speaks very good English.we had great adventure holiday in Iceland.

“best shower ever”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

as other reports state the standard rooms are small, so don't share, but lets face it, you want to get changed and sleep in it, for which they were quite adequate. Beds were comfortable and rooms warm. Bathroom was spotless and the shower was brilliant, endless hot water and lots of it. All the icelandic staff were friendly and spoke good english, only one female on the desk (origin unsure) was offhand. Continental breakfast was good and the evening salad bar/buffet was excellent value for money, both were constantly topped up so always a good choice. One complaint would be the walls are very thin and you can here other guests. Iceland is expensive and as always you generally get what you pay for so, if you want to look at decor etc get your hand deep in your pocket!
