“Weekend not long enough”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We went as two couples and flew with Icelandair the staff were great and the plane was spacious and comfortable. Hotel Best Western was clean and warm everyone spoke very good English, breakfast was continental with cereal, toast, croissants, hard boiled eggs, cheeses and fruit so plenty of choice ( the only thing was that we were being picked up at 4.30 the day we departed and they said they wouldn't open until that time but we asked the nice man on nights and he opened 10mins early for us). There is a Restaurant next door that can be accessed through the dining room (LA LUNA) the food is very good. We also ate at the Madonna a few yards down and Alli was very friendly the food is a little more expensive than home but good. The town was in easy walking distance but to see everything a city tour is well worth the money. While there we did Golden Circle tour, City tour, Blue lagoon and Northern lights the tour guides are excellent and knowledgeable so i can definitely say it was a most enjoyable holiday but a bit tiring

“Nothing short of excellent!!!”

We stayed there for 5 nights through Icelandair package. I must say that everything was simply fantastic. The hotel is well-located with a bus stop & 11to11 (supermarket) nearby. We had our own rental car & thus did not use the bus service. The hotel is clean & offers very good value for money - free wi-fi, free parking, great buffet breakkfast are additional value-adds. The reception staff is really friendly & Jon Arason was of great help. He is a fantastic guy & I had some great conversations with him. We were given a deluxe double room which was really large for european standards (something like 25 mtr sqr). We simply loved iceland and are already planning our next trip!

Some tips:
- The northern lights coach packages (from most companies) are a complete rip-off.
- Hire a rental car & explore the country - its amazingly fresh & beautiful
- On your own car, a fantastic place near Reyk to watch the Northern lights, is Seltjarnanrnes (Grotta beach) which is like 10 kms away only.
- Northern lights appear better to your camera than your naked eye - generally appear as vertical green patterns
- Routes in single digit & double digits are safe to drive in winter (we had a a Hyundai i20 & faced no issues). Avoid highlands with such vehicle or go for a 4X4
- Sunrise & sunsets are pretty amazing - you feel as if you are on another planet
- Its realy windy out there & wet as well - so prepare yourself accordingly
- There's a very modern looking church in Seltjarnarnes a couple of kms away from the Grotta beach) on a small hillock which offers great views of Reyk. We met a great gentleman from the church there who offered us free coffee & great knowledge on iceland - thank you sir!
- Keep an eye on weather at all times - it keeps changing - we were fooled twice by it.
- We drove from Reyk to Akranes - not the tunnel but around the peninsula - some breathtaking views worth dying for - take this lesser known route on a clear day from some real mountainside panoramic views - return to Reyk via the tunnel from Akranes
- And last but not the least, MUST try the geothermal pools - they are real dirt cheap at 3 euros in Reyk - we tried Laugar***, which closes at 10 PM (very refreshing after a hard day out in the fields)

And thanks once again to Jon & his team at the reception, without whom the trip would not be as memorable as it is!

Room Tip: Front facing rooms offer a nice view of Reyk & the big church

“Strongly recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We have just returned from a week in Reykjavik where we stayed at this hotel. Our room was excellent! Well equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, a fridge for our own use, dressing gowns etc, The room was spacious with storage areas and was well decorated, of particular interest was a spiral staircase which went up to our bedroom area. Our room was always warm which was appreciated when it was freezing outside. The shower was hot although the water came from the geothermal spring and consequently was "whiffy" but it did wonders for our skin! Breakfasts were pleasant with a good selection of breads, croissant, toast, fruit, cold meats, cheese, boiled eggs etc.
The Reception staff were extremely helpful, suggesting ideas of what to do and who to go with. They provided up to the minute information on weather forecasts and cloud cover in our attempts to see the Northern Lights. Bergdis went out of her way to help us get the most from our week. Thank you!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 4th floor if you want a split level room.

“Warm Welcome in a Cold Climate”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Greeted with a friendly welcome. Reception staff very helpful. Rooms are clean, comfortable and warm. Has tea making facility in the room. Breakfast is contienental but lots of choice, toast, croissants, cereals, fruit salad, hard boiled eggs, a selection of cheese and ham, yogurt. Choice of coffee, tea, orange, apple juice. Hotel is attached to La Luna restaurant so very convenient if arriving late and wanting a quick bite to eat without having to go into town. The main shops are about 10 minute walk. Many restaurants to choose from. Would recommend Caruso and Pomoddorosa, great food. The hotel will book the Flybus coach for you when requested. Nothing is too much trouble. Icelanders make you feel so very welcome. Take full advantage of all the excursions - particularly the Blue Lagoon (hot spring) and the Superjeep Tour for the Golden Circle. Best trip though was to see the Northern Lights - no guarantee, was cancelled twice due to weather conditions, however, got lucky on our last nite and saw the most amazing light show on earth - will stay with me forever!! Had the best time in Iceland! X

Room Tip: View at the front of the hotel is good as you can see the church in the distance - reminded us of th...

“IT'S JANUARY. YOU'RE IN ICELAND. THIS IS A GREAT HQ HOTEL.”

Rooms are rather small and furnished by Ikea. The room was WARM. And the bed with down comforter provided an exceptional sleep. A brisk short walk will take you to downtown or the mall. Early 9am check in by very nice staff was a gift from god. Alcohol all over Iceland is expensive. Bring money. Will stay here every chance I get.
