The owners of this family run establishment are what makes this hotel such a gem! We were personally escorted to our room, meals were specifically prepared with us in mind, our airline was repeatedly contacted on our behalf, and we were driven by the owners to the airport; when nobody else would get up that early! Although it was cold in Iceland, these hotel owners truly made Iceland feel warm. Accommodations were nice, and everything was very modern and clean. We will definitely visit this hotel again!

The owner of this hotel (I think her name is Ana) could not have been more helpful. We arrived after midnight to be greeted with a smile. Though we took her last room, we were treated as though we were her first and most important guests. Flight schedules had separated us from our traveling companions (sons) and she allowed us to use the Hotel computer to send an email message to them of our whereabouts. She then took their names and offered to look out for them should they arrive. The next morning, when no sons were there, Ana arranged for my husband to accompany other guests who were going to the airport. Again, I was allowed to use her computer for another message. She inquired of other assistance she may provide which led to a delightful conversation between two mothers. Visitors to Iceland should note that Hotels and breakfasts are different than in America. Generally, rooms are modestly furnished but clean, and come with few towels. Liquid soap is for both hands and shower and lights are motion activated- prevents long American showers! Iceland is very eco-aware with many "green" activities. Breakfast everywhere is cold cuts, cheese, boiled eggs, toast, cereal with yogurt and sometimes fruit. Hotel Keilir provided a good sample of all with Ana ever-present. When does she sleep? We will certainly return to this lovel village and to Hotel Keilir.

Room was small (by U.S. standards), and definitely no-frills. Be, desk and small refrigerator only with a liquid soap dispenser in the bath (no bar soap, toiletries, hair dryer, etc.). Also absent was carpeting, a shelf or stand to set your luggage, clock, tissues, coffee maker, iron and decent lighting for reading. On the plus side, the room was spotlessly clean, had nice blackout curtains, windows opened, and the setting was very quiet. Continental breakfast was spartan. No elevator in the 3 story hotel. The hotel will provide airport transfers for a fee.

We had the misfortune to arrive at this hotel at the same time as a busload of passengers whose flight had been delayed for a whole day. The reception was obviously stressed and was irritably shouting out orders to lots of very tired people all queued up who were all demanding ground floor rooms so they didn't have to carry their suitcases upstairs! After 20 minutes it was finally our turn to check-in and without listening to us she demanded a name looked on the flight list and couldn't find us. When eventually she did listen as we explained we were independently booked she found us and announced 'ok, we do have a room for you' - I should hope so when we had been booked several weeks in advance - not the welcome I was expecting!!!
After that, we were checked in without problems. The rooms are reasonable - very basic but pleasant enough. The bathroom light is on some sort of timer that is movement activated and doesn't extend to the shower so both myself and my friend had to finish our showers in the pitch black darkness before we could reactivate the light!
Overall, it was fine for just one night as an airport hotel - close to the airport and on the main street of Keflavik so that you could walk to a few restaurants - but I wouldn't stay here longer.
