If you are on a round trip over iceland is a very good place for a stopover. Good location directly by number one route. Clean and nice rooms, large breakfast. Shared but clean and not overcrowded bathrooms. Remember to collect stamps after each night. After 4 nights at Edda hotels you will get fifth night for free!
My boyfriend and me found this lovely hotel when we were looking for some place where we don't have to sell a kidney for a bed and a pillow.
This place is not expensive at all, still, u have a clean and comfortable shelther to a fair price. We spend 10, 000 ikr for a double room, with shared showers and toilette, which were very clean also.
Really nice experience you have more options than camping sites to enjoy iceland.
Hofn has several small hotels as well as restaruants. The Edda Hotel is a school except int he summer whenit is converted into a travelers hotel. We found the room we had to be very large with a large panoramic view of the front entrance, which was somewhat of a detraction for two reasons. Firstly as guests come and go they can see right into the room unless you draw the curtains. Secondly, the midnight sun of June keeps the room bright as the curtains are opaque not dark. Upon check-in the clerk at the front desk was courteous and somehat helpful describing the breakfast room for the morning, but she neglected to tell us there was a full service restaurant for dinner. We checked out the other restaurants in town, a few kilometres away and as we were leaving to have dinner elsewhere we noticed a bus load of French tourists going to the cafeteria. We inquired and were abruptly told, that yes there is a restaurant and could eat there if we wished. Rather than go out, we ate in. Both dinner and breakfast were sumptious and filling. We had our own bottle of wine for dinner also. Cost for both meals was 13,600. As with all Edda Hotels the bedding is Scandanavian style, clean, fresh and comfortable. The room was immaculate. The only draw back is the shared experience of washrooms and showers. With a bus load of other travelers to compete with, some of the rooms got pretty messed-up during rush hour. Since this was the only hotel of this kind of our nine day trip we decided to rough it out until our next night on the road. This hotel is a difference experience for everyone else we're sure.
Ok ICELAND.. on the east coast of ICELAND outside the city of Hofen.. There is not much out here. This hotel is a pre-fab building (like most in the country side of Iceland) wonderful views, nice rooms for the money, good location for a night stop for my car trip around Iceland. We booked a 2 bed room with shared showers, and baths. We had a snick in the room. The shower room was clean, and I'm a picky person, and I was ok with it. I would call this ruffing it for me ;)
The room was a nice size, and basic. There is no TV not that I care. The hotel is right off the main road around Iceland, so if you are driving around there is a chain of these hotels around Iceland. The room was under $110 for 2 people booked 2 nights before hand. The staff (mother and young daughter) were very nice.. There is a restaurant in the hotel for dinner it was a buffet so i drove the 10 min to "downtown" Hofen, there is restaurants there.. There was also a breakfast buffet, for a fee... I did not do this.. Over all, I was happy.. It was basic, but clean and worked for one night!
