“Can't wait to return in 2012!”

I know it's a year late in submitting this review but never mind. After visiting Kyrenia in 2007 (Almond Holiday Village) we decided to visit the Denizkizi as we had visited it in 2007 and were impressed with its location and private beach. We were very pleased with our decision. We stayed at the DR on a B&B basis and used local eateries in the evening. Breakfasts at the DR were excellent with a wide choice on offer. Room was excellent with beautiful sea views. Most of our time was spent at the pool which we had to ourselves for most of the time. Pool bar was excellent with a wide range of meals and drinks, all reasonably priced. One of the highlights for me was the fact that the hotel served Efes on draught - one of the few places we have found in Northern Cyprus that actually serve draught beer. We visited the mainland this year on an all-inclusive basis in a 5 star hotel but it could not compete with the Denizkizi Royal so we have booked to return here in 2012.

Room Tip: You will pay a bit more to stay in the Denizkizi Royal rather than the older Denizkizi part of the h...

“Stayed at the Denizkizi for 10 nights - excellent hotel with modern rooms”

There are two hotels on this site: the Denizkizi, where we stayed, and the Denizkizi Royal. They share the same dining room and bar under the Denizkizi. The Denizkizi had just been thoroughly modernised and has a very modern foyer and rooms. Looking at the past reviewers' and hotel's photos, it would appear that the room upgrade has been at the expense of balconies. However, you have patio windows (glass behind to stop you falling out but care needed!) that you can open letting the sea breeze waft through the room. We had a sea view room on the side of the hotel so we partly looked inland and partly out to sea. We were told we had a very nice room when we were shown to the room on arrival and looking looking at other rooms being cleaned we were apparently given a family room. We didn't need it but room was much bigger and the sofabed made a nice couch. We had windows on two sides which made the view stunning and enabled us to keep the room cool easily too. Really nice modern bathroom too.

We had bed and breakfast only - the breakfasts did get monotonous after a few days but they had all the necessary stuff. We did try dinner there one night (many people, mainly seniors, seemed to be on half board) but I was not that impressed with it. There are a few places to eat nearby (particularly recommend the family run restaurant to the right of the main road T junction) and a quick dolmus (local minibus bus) or hire car ride took us into Girne (Kyrenia) or to Lapta nearby where there is a bigger selection. I'd recommend eating out and exploring.

We did a lot of exploring of tjhe country bit being beach fans but we did use the beach and swimming pool too - both were welll appointed and had a bar doing drinks and food. The beach was relatively clean and easy to swim off.

My only gribe with the hotel was they failed despite repeated reporting of it to deal with a small problem with one of our curtains. This was despite maintenance folk being around,

Overall, a good place to stay - this was our first visit to N Cyprus. This hotel is comfortable and the country is welcoming, with an excellent climate in September and very affordable.

Room Tip: Ask for the end rooms - ours ended 13.

“Excellent Family run Hotel”

This hotel is family run and perfect for the beach ( just 62 steps) also a buggy provided for the less able!! Big pool with plenty of sunbeds. Weekends are a bit busier as the beach and pool have paying visitors, it didn't affect our enjoyment though. Good food and a very friendly atmosphere the only thing missing was entertainment a couple of nights a week. There was a live Turkish singer once a week over diner but this finished with the meal maybe this could be extended so that guests that wish to can dance?
Drinks and the hotel were reasonable and the Red Lion Pub down the road was worth a visit.
Overall a very enjoyable holiday with the owner very attentive to the guests needs.
Direct Traveller were excellent our two Reps were very helpful and provided a hire car.
We were phoned twice as an extra l guess from a central office to check that everything was ok and could they do anything for us. Ok perhaps to sell us some excursions (they didn't mention this though) that has never happened to us before!
Pegasus Airways is what is says basic!

Room Tip: The main Hotel has been extensively refurbished and the front rooms have the best unobstructed sea v...

“What more could you want?”

We stayed at The Denizkizi for 19 nights in September & thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This was our 4th stay over 8 years & our first since recent renovation. The hotel used to be comfortable but dated, it is now comfortable, light, bright, modern & very chic. As usual the staff are very friendly & efficient. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean as is the sandy beach. We were on B&B & the breakfast was very good. There are a few eateries of a good standard within easy walking distance & many superb places a short dolmus/taxi ride away.
There is a huge pool as well as the beach & both have plenty of sun beds & umbrellas &, good reasonably priced food available.
This is a brilliant place if you want a relaxing holiday, good weather, food & interesting sight seeing. Not for party animals!
We will return! I cannot understand why this hotel does not receive more reviews.

Room Tip: Denizkizi Sea view for best views.

“Back after 7 years & still wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

It was 7 years ago that we previously stayed at this hotel and coming back we honestly wondered why we had not returned before. Everything was as before, lovely room, excellant breakfasts, help yourself buffet style but what a buffet! It was impressive. Plus you could have some food cooked if you wished, omelettes and even fried halloumi cheese-delicious. The private beach although open to non residents was not packed but as we were there in June I suspect this was the reason as there are a lot of sun beds and weekends was a lot busier. Saying that we always got a sun bed. We loved the cristal clear water in the bay and for us the snorkelling is the best we have ever had in the Med. If you snorkel go down first thing inthe morning and you will see large shoals of fish of every variety that the Med has to offer plus the elusive Mediterranean Parrot Fish, (vibrant turquoise blue), the smaller cousin of the one found in the Caribbean, this is the only place I have seen it.

Evenings at the hotel are low key with dining on the terrace, again buffet style but such an array of fabulous salads (a vegetarian's idea of heaven), plus various cooked dishes, and the sweets are delicious. The view on the terrace is sensational, with the five finger mountains to the back and the bay and sea to the front, it will take your breath away. The sister hotel (Deniz Kizi), was at the end of a refurbishment but we did not see or hear anything. Staff were excellant and always smiling (warm genuine smiles) and so helpful. Niazi the owner was staying and we enjoyed chatting with him in the day getting tips of lovely places to visit in North Cyprus. Will we return, you bet we will. Next year and the years after.

Room Tip: Overlooking the front towards the car park and the sea.
