“Got mixed feelings”

The hotel has pretty much perfect location in Helsinki. It's as central as it could be with railway station nearby, trams/buses/metro all stop right next to it and night life/shopping possibilities spread around it. It's not too expensive, but depending on how you look at it it might not be exactly worth the money either. The rooms are sized and furnished ok with all the basic things, but the bathrooms are awfully worn out (been there twice). This time the floor tiles under shower were broken or even missing, tile seams black and moldy, racks broken from the shower so there was no place for shampoo or soap. Toilet seat was in awful condition (scratches, coloured, uneven etc), it should have been changed!
We did get a good night's sleep, thanks to AC, darkening curtains and a room to the inner yard. The "view" was awful, there was some kind of renovation being done and the workmen started at 7AM...therefore the sleep was cut early. But I guess as the renovation's over, it'll be fine.
Breakfast was very similar to any other Cumulus brekkie, but there was a bit better bread + cake selection than in others I've visited. Shame the coffee machine only made regular coffee, but there are two good coffee chains right down the street (Wayne's and Robert's), so you can get your fix! We got lovely service at breakfast, but people at reception were pretty indifferent. Dunno if I'd stay there again, most probably would try out something new.

Room Tip: If you appreciate good sleep, get a room facing the inner

“Great location, good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

I've stayed at the hotel during weekend trip to Helsinki, and I've had a decent time with it's comfy rooms (they may seem quite small, but there've been enough place for me either to work with laptop or rest). Nice variety of meals served at buffet breakfast in a cozy restaurant, and after that you have to make only 5-10 minutes walk to all the great places in the centre of Helsinki, like Esplanda,Kauppatori, or Cathedral.

Stayed one night. Decent hotel with basic and functional amenities. It's location is quite good being close to the main train station.

“3 stars for the price of 4.5 stars”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2010

My room is adequate, but for 163 euros per night, I had expected something much better than just adequate. The room is small but not tiny, with a double bed, armchair and lamp, and a small desk with chair and desklamp. The furnishings and fixtures are of good quality but mid-range Ikea in aesthetic. There is a small closet, and a minimal amount of hanging space with four coat-hangers (plus an additional would-be hanging space that has no coat-hangers supplied because it's too narrow for them to fit). The bed is comfortable. The shower is separated from the rest of the bathroom only by the geometry of the room; there is no actual shower enclosure or shower curtain. However, a large floor squeegee is provided.

The room is fairly well (but not perfectly) soundproofed against the traffic of the street below. However, the wooden floors let you know exactly when the person upstairs moves a chair or returns to her room at 2 in the morning wearing high heels.

Amenities include a small safe (for which the English instructions are confusingly mistranslated*) and a minibar. Breakfast and medium-speed DSL Internet are included in the room price. The breakfast buffet is of fair to good quality and adequate variety.

Missing from the room, although I would have expected them to be included at this price, were facial tissues, a shaving / make-up mirror, a coffee maker, a plug in the handbasin, and a clock (although the television has a wake-up feature). Included in the room, although I would not have expected it at this price, was a TV remote control held together with duct tape.

*The phrase "push and button" should have said "Push the unlabelled white button hidden on the back of the safe door".

“Great location, so-so ammenities”

I attended a 4 day conference up at the Helsinki Convention Center and was in need of a decent hotel located close to the railway station. The Cumulus Kaisaniemi definitely fit the bill. It was an easy 5 walk from the railway station and very close walking distance to the Esplanade, waterfront market and Lutheran Cathedral. Several trams also stop right out the front door on Kaisaniemi. The room was rather small and the bathroom was very cramped but there was decent closet space. Unfortunately, there was construction going on at the back of the hotel between 7am-7pm, so it was very noisy in the room during the day. Fortunately, I was almost never there during those hours. I appreciated the free wifi and the breakfast selection was outstanding. Probably the best I had during my entire 2 week trip. The front desk staff was friendly enough and helpful with restaurant recommendations.
