We spent a couple of days in Helsinki with my significant other and spent a night in Helka. We really enjoyed our stay and wished we had had a chance to stay longer. The 6th floor room was quiet, clean, comfortable and cosy with little luxury of a private steam sauna. Stylish furniture, good space to move around, very comfortable and wider than usual bed (2 x 90cm beds instead of 80cm)! We barely left the room all night and it was really hard to say goodbye to the room before noon.
We dined lightly on a salmon soup and a Helka's burger and both were simple, very tasty dishes. The simplicity of the soup (just fish and potatoes) made an impression, absolutely wonderful dish on a cold, stormy December night. Excellent service in the restaurant this time!
My choosy companion was satisfied with the breakfast selection the next morning but there could have been more variety on gluten free breads/pastries. On the other hand, there were plenty of other things available!
The only thing I could really complain about was the fact that there was no room for your toiletries in the shower - the only choice was to place them on the floor. The whole bathroom seemed a bit outdated compared to the room itself, perhaps a little facelift is in order?
If you're arriving by car, note that the garage is really small and the ramp to it narrow! If you have a big car, park it to the street level spaces if any are available. Loved the fact there's a bookshelf in the lobby - though I didn't really spend time reading...
We will definitely return for both the hotel and the restaurant!
