We stayed at the Cumulus Olympia to run the Helsinki Marathon. The great plus is that it is within easy walking distance of the Olympic Stadium.
If you are going to Helsinki for any other purpose the location is less than desirable. There are no decent shops or restaurants nearby and some rather more dubious businesses. It is also a considerable distance from the centre, although the tram stop outside takes you into the centre at reasonable cost.
The rooms are clean and functional with free internet. As good as you would expect for 3 star. You can get tea and coffee from reception area 24 hours plus a selection of biscuits, cakes, fruit etc at a small cost.
The restaurant attached serves breakfast and you can eat in the evenings there. For the first couple of days this was fine - good breakfast, reasonable menu in the evening and freshly cooked. Price not too bad - for Finland! However, when the hotel got busy they could not cope. Not enough seating room for breakfast - and only one server and one chef in the evening meant delays of over an hour.
This was both unforgivable and stupid given that they knew they would be busy as it was an official hotel for the race. And also their own booking system must have told them they were busy. We went elsewhere as many others did - when in fact we wanted to eat there.
Value for money poor by our standards and southern european standards - however, bearing in mind that scandinavia is expensive the price was okay.

OK place for a one night stay but maybe not more than that. Nothing to complain, nothing to praise.

The hotel is very simple but nice, room was ok, but bathroom is really very small. Breakfast was very good, i like the cottage and different kind of bred,cheese, eggs etc, never been hungry. Dinner at the restaurant downstairs was nice but expencive. Staff is friendly . I like the location, its not so far from center of the city if to take tram-it take 5 min, and about 20-25 min by walking if the weather is fine)) Hotel area is a bit quiet, but we found some nice bars not far from hotel. And its not far from Aquarium, we went there about 15 min, walking in the park. I can say that staying at Cumulus was good for the money we paid for it.

Stayed here three days for work. Paying €130 a night, so not so budget. Dont know if this is the best rate, maybe for Helsinki its typical. My previous two visits were also in medium quality hotels.

The rooms are aka the Travel lodge chain in the UK. Small bathroom, with a quite a plastic shower. Clean, but toilet basin had a sort of brown, no bleach colour.

Good is the provison of free internet- so i can write this review from my room!! ;-) Only cable internet, no free wifi. Why ????

Break fast is poor, the range is ok, but it is crowded, the tables are not cleared quickly after previous customers, the table cloths are left on so that the stains and crubs from the previous person remain. if they don't want to replace the cloths each time, why not at least paper covers or place mats that can be replaced or hard surface that can be kept clean ???? Its a false economy. Maybe not sufficient staff in the breakfast lounge

In my view this is the key factor that makes me not recommend this hotel
