“Hotel with a sole”

This hotel is the second oldest still operating hotel in Helsinki, having been around for almost 100 years. The hotel is in the very center of city so it's perfect for business and pleasure. The hotel in it self is nothing very special. Newly refurbished rooms with typical Scandinavian simplicity and cleanness. The breakfast is an average warm breakfast, with all the normal stuff. For business there are quite a few company HQ's walking distance. For leisure all the top bars and nightclubs are close by. The hotel has a nightclub, but it's not that great (used to be popular 10-15 year ago).
Across the street from the hotel there's a shopping complex. In the basement of the comp+lex there's a place called Eat&Joy where you can find all kinds of ecological products. They have also some seating if you want to have lunch or coffee. Highly recommended

“In the centre of the heart”

I was looking for a hotel placed in the city centre for me and my family (two teenage boys) to stay for three nights.
The hotel was booked several months in advance with the request of adjacent rooms.
We arrived early and were able to deposit our baggage until the room was ready just after lunch.
We got the requested adjacent rooms which even had interconnecting doors, couldn't have asked for more.
The rooms were clean and in good condition, nothing flash but considering the price ok.
We stayed Friday to Monday and even the hotel was quite busy it wasn't a noisy place.
The buffet breakfast was exellent, particularly Saterday and Sunday with a great joyce.
The staff was very helpfull with sightseeing and travel tips.
Rooms were made late in the afternoon and this was sometimes inconvinient when we had a rest after a busy day of sightseeing. One day the room wasn't made at all which didn't bother my two boys too much.
All in all we found it a great hotel to stay in to explore the beautyfull City of Helsinki and I would certainly recommend this hotel to my friends.

“Too budget for my liking”

I arrived after 15 hours of traveling to be told that they didn't have a room available for me even though one had been booked months in advance. Had to wait or quite a while until one was available. When one was available it was one of the smallest rooms I've ever stayed in. It was cold as well even with the heating apparently cranked up. I couldn't open the curtains because there was a building directly outside with numerous people being able to look right in. As far as I could see there was no room service. I think it was about E160 a night, not sure if that is considered cheap but I would definitely not stay here again, would rather pay more and stay in a real hotel. I suppose the location is pretty good, that is one positive thing.

Room Tip: Do yourself a favour, spend a bit more and stay in a better hotel unless you are a backpacker.

“Not too bad at all”

We spend a weekend in Helsinki last this winter. The weather was not too winter-like, no snow, only rain... But the rain didn't spoil our weekend, we had great time in Helsinki. We ate good, slept well and visited theater.

This hotel is located neatly close to stations and not too far from the activities either. Actually we selected this hotel because of location.

Rooms are nice, not the biggest. We got good sleep both nights and the breakfast was really nice.

“Automated Hotel w/ Few Amenities”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

My wife and I stayed at the Sokos for one night. We arrived at the hotel just before 4pm and requested an early check-in, but quickly learned that this was impossible as the hotel is apparently managed by robots and not empathetic humans (the hotel is almost entirely automated).

Although the light in the bathroom was out and the hair dryer was not working, the hotel was fairly comfortable and clean.

If I were to return to Helsinki, I would spend slightly more and stay in a hotel that has humans on-site.
