Spent a week at Sokos Aleksanteri in January. Stayed on the fifth floor, and they mentioned something about it being an “upgraded” room. Cost of rooms are not bad. Service is very good both at the desk and bar/restaurant. Everyone speaks English. Fitness room and sauna on the -1 floor. A few free weights and some air pressure type weight machines. Two fitness bikes. The set up worked well for me. Room was spacious. Slept well, heat is adjustable via thermostat. Floor of bathroom is heated, which makes those cold mornings a little better. Shower glass does not go to floor and water runs out into basin and stool area. A real pain at first. I started placing some small towels on floor near shower to stop the spills. Internet works well in room and is included in room. I used their wired service. Breakfast has scrambled eggs and some meats, along with a good variety of breads, digestives, cheese and other. I took two meals in the Bar area of the restaurant. Beer is horribly expensive in Finland, 6-7 Euro. They have a good variety bottled with one Finnish Lager on tap. Food is tasty. Sampled both soups and some rustic French cuisine. Prices are not out of the ordinary with 15-20 Euro plates. Hotel is situated near city center and I walked (with bag) from train station. Trams and busses pick up just around the corner, get a regional pass if you want to really use public transport in Helsinki. This hotel work well for me during this business trip.
