Hostel Rudolf was is excellent budget accommodation in what is quite an expensive Finnish town. A five minute walk from the centre of town (15 to the train station) it is centrally located and easy to find. The rooms were sparse but clean and comfortable. A higher standard than a typical 'hostel' private room, our twin contained an en suite, wardrobe, bedside tables and a television with a large array of channels. Further the hostel provides two kitchens (one irregularly cleaned and in a bit of a sorry state while we stayed there) and recreational area. A fabulous option for those who like to self cater!
The only drawback of the hostel (and it is a small one) is that there are no staff on site. The hostel is affiliated with the Hotel Santa Claus (about a seven minute walk away). Keys must therefore be collected at Santa Claus before you can enter the hostel. We found the best option (particularly as the weather was -20 degrees) was to catch a taxi to Hotel Santa Claus and then take the easy walk over to the hostel. There are some benefits to this arrangement however, Santa Claus allows hostel residents use of the free internet in reception and will store luggage.
Overall fantastic accommodation in a fabulous city.
