In the heart of Rovaniemi. We were a minute's walk from Lordi's Square which was very handy especially when the temperature plummeted.
The decor seemed dated compared to their other hotels across Finland, almost like it was the 70s. But that's not really a problem at all. Breakfast buffet was the same as most hotels, a nice variety of cereal, yoghurts, breads and meat. Though I would avoid the scrambled egg!
The room itself was bigger than I was expecting, as was the bed. Plenty of pillows and blankets were available, though we couldn't work out the aircon unit! Also, the shiny wood flooring made for plenty of static shocks when wearing your wooly thermals - of course, not a problem for the hotel. TV worked fine, some channels overly grainy but we weren't really watching too much of it anyway. My only qualm with the layout of the room was the fact that there were two lamps directly above the bed on the wall, at a perfect height to hit your head on in-fact if you were making a quick escape to the loo in the middle of the night.
The hotel did provide free internet in rooms, but it was via ethernet cable - which was fine since we brought a netbook but could be problematic for those wanting to bring tablets and smartphones only.
Bathroom seemed a but cramped but was everything that was needed. Mind the step when walking in though, caught me out a few times.
Sauna facility was great. Always at a decent temperature (except when the last person had left the door open), area was very clean and the pool was within easy reach.
In all as a place to stay that has a hot shower, comfy beds and warmth when the temperature outside is reaching about -30C, Cumulus is a great and somewhat more affordable way to stay in the 'capital of lapland'. Very good location, well maintained and most of the staff were very friendly. There were a few who didn't even acknowledge us as we walked past but most were friendly.
Would stay there again.
