I stayed for 2 nights at this hotel to attend a wedding.
1- The square on which the hotel is located is undergoing a huge construction work - meaning that for the rooms facing the square, you have the feeling trucks and buldozers are entering your room from 8 in the morning, Saturdays included!
2- The rooms are very hot - so you need to leave the windows open to be able to breathe - which only accentuate the noise issue (refer to 1)
3- The rooms are just not up to the standard - there is no proper bathroom, only what I could describe as a "shower closet" on one hand and a "toilet closet" on the other hand of the room. On top of that, rooms are not clean and very very old, as the hotel.
4- The service is simply bad - our friend got thrown out of the hotel with no consideration, the recpetionist was simply rude.
All in all, I don't see any charm in paying 140€ a night for a run down hotel, with no service, room that don't even compare with a clean youth hostel, where you cannot sleep because of the heat and the noise. Just don't go there.

Stayed in the hotel to join a wedding in Kuopio. When we arrived, it turned out that there was a huge construction site in front of the hotel with drilling machines operating less then 3 meters from the hotel from the early morning including Saturday (workers where wearing hearing damage protection). Also the hotel was extremely hot, with no air conditioning, so it was not an option to sleep with the windows closed. Complaints were not taken seriously and it was argued that it being a busy time, the rooms where rented out anyway. There was no prior warning and no alternatives where being offered nor a discount to the EUR 125,- room rate. A rate extremely high anyway for a worn down hotel with a very small bathroom with a plastic rambling shower cabine in the bathroom with the water running over the whole bathroom floor. It seams that the mgt has taken a deliberate decission to ignore the noise and rent out the rooms with no options for refunds etc.

Only not terrible things I would say are the fairly central location and the fairly ok breakfast in an extremely hot dining room. However, there are much better choices at much better value available all over Kuopio. We stayed one night at the Sokos hotel which is very nice, against good value at a perfect location.

The Atlas hotel used to be a great hotel in Kuopio and some old Finnish films were even filmed there. However, now it has shrinked into an average, a bit "shabby" and the rooms "hostel like". Some of the charm of the good old days may still be sensed in the restaurant where also the reception is now situated.

The room were we stayed was small and the toilet&shower even smaller.

The situation is very central in Kuopio and the breakfast was OK.

located right at the central square / market place of kuopio I chose this hotel because ti was easy to reach only a 10 minute walk from railway station.

Arrived late evening and was very warmly welcomed by the young girls of the reception.

Rooms are big and high, old early 20th century flats with clean small bathroom and a shower. Nice comfty beds, but even though I was there in early July it was very cold. Didn't find the air con, but I think it came through window.

Very nice breakfast with morning newspapers. Plenty of fresh juice and fruits, pastry and cookies, warm omelets to choose from.

Had a drink in the bar in the evening, which was very quite me being the only customer but the staff was very nice and kept me company.

The hotel is great value and would go back when in Kuopio again.
