We chose this hotel based on the good reviews on TA. I have stayed at several hotels in the Radisson Blu-group and usually they are glossy, flawless and have good standard, even though they may feel a bit unpersonal.
The Radisson Blu hotel in Gothenburg is located at a very central spot in the city. Very close to the train station, shops and sights. It's not the most charming part of the city and there were not many interesting restaurants in the neighborhood, but a great place to stay if you're exploring the city and enjoy shopping (very close to Nordstan - a large but horrible indoor shopping center and the more fashionable NK).
We arrived by car and fortunately they had available parking (very expensive though, 250 SEK a night), later the same day all of the parking spots were taken and guests were advised to use nearby parking facilities.
My first impression of the hotel was that 1) it was busy (this is the first time in MANY years that we have not been able to check in before the official check-in time.. it's no problem, but I still found it odd..) 2) a fishy smell in the reception 3) a chlorine smell in the reception (due to the pool facilties I guess) and that the hotel itself was very (like most of Gothenburg) early 90s. It's very outdated and untrendy, not at all similar to other Radisson-hotels.
We were placed in a room without windows, it was just a view out in the common area where Christmas Parties were held every night (a lot of noise!) Also we had one of very few rooms without a balcony. The room itself had an okay size, a large bed, tv and most facilities. Funny and oddly decorated, what's with the chili? (I've seen it before at the Gardermoen-hotel) The bathroom was worn and could need refurbishing.
On the positive side, the beds were probably the best beds I've ever slept in (Hästens). The breakfast buffet was chaotic, but the food was great!
At a good rate, this hotel is an okay choice because of the central location, but I'm pretty sure we'll chose another hotel next time we're in Gothenburg!
Room Tip: Beware that you might end up with a room inside of the building, a bit claustrophobic..
