I stayed at Wåxnäs Hotel between 12-13 of April 2007 and the main reason (except a business trip to Karlstad), was the facts that the hotel was cheap (about ½ the price of city hotels) and it was very easy to access. The hotel is located 2-3 km outside the city center and very easy to find along the highway. The surroundings are semi-urban/industrial and there seemed to be nothing worth visiting in the nearby area.

OK, the hotel was cheap and I did nothing more than to arrive late and go to bed and sleep so from that point of view everything was OK. BUT the hotel is outdated and in desperate need of some renovation, and some attention about smaller issues would be good. First, the room is fairly big and the two single beds were OK, better than in many other places I slept. There is a small TV but only three channels. There was a big sofa that could be converted into a bed so there was room for more people. The highway passes just outside and the windows do pretty well at shutting most noise out but I am a heavy sleeper so I cannot really judge. The room was pretty clean but some minor issues were annoying (no shampoo – bad and partially bad cleaning, I found 50 SEK – good).

Breakfast which basically was buns, cheese, some salami and cereals, was below average though the boiled eggs were perfect. Oh, the guy at the reception was very nice and helpful, though I would recommend him to start using his service minded abilities at a far better hotel.

To sum it up, it was OK given the fact that I only spent ten hours inside the building so paying 695 SEK for that was fair. But I will not return to Wåxnäs hotel for future visits unless something very dramatic happens to the property.
