Stayed for a few nights in business in what is apparently supposed to be the best hotel in Karlstad. Centrally located in a nice, old building, but otherwise very basic. The standard room was very small, with no views to speak of, just barely met business standard and could definitely use an update. Basic Swedish hotel breakfast. Helpful staff. If you choose to stay anyway, could be worth to pay for a premium room.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights.The first night was on our way to Stockholm from Oslo when we had a very pleasant experience. The room is large, the air-conditioner is working perfect and the bath room is newly decorated with very modern design. However, on our way back to Oslo, we were given a room which is much smaller. The bath room looked like those in the motel, small and old. The air-con was working but the power was so small that we had to leave the door open so that we could have some cooler air from the air-con in the corridor!!! We spoke to the receptionist asking for changing the room but was told this is the only room they have available. We asked the manager why we have got room with totally different standard but with the same room rate, and the manager (a female) said that "this is the way it is!" No sorry from her whatsover, though she did offer us to send a fan to the room. Who would exepct using a fan when staying in a four star hotel? Otherwize the hotel is ok.

Perhaps this was once a grander hotel than it is today, but it serves very well if you find yourself in this region of Sweden. Easy to locate, close to a park and lake, the hotel has all the basic services including a free breakfast and free wireless. The rooms are not large but are comfortable and contain all the necessities. There is no restaurant but there are plenty of (fairly average) restaurants within walking distance.

Small but tastefully furnished rooms, views over Klarälven river and the city center. Great breakfast buffet. Helpful staff - we could leave our car at the hotel parking and some of our luggage in storage when we spent a night biking to Uddeholm on "Klarälvsbanan", a 90km rail trail - a must for bicycle tourists! Very competetive pricing when booking in advance. Highly recommended!
