“Great location, beautiful rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2012

We stayed in Hotel Stureplan for a weekend in Stockholm. Location is great, in the middle of the city center and walking distance to tourist attractions, shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. We arrived a bit before official check in time (15:00), but the rooms were already ready upon arrival. We were asked if we wanted a room on the street side or room with a view on the inner garden - we chose the street side because the receptionist convinced us the view was much better.

While booking we did spent a bit of extra money on upgrading to a superior room. The room was very nice: spacious enough for the two of us (we put our small suitcases in the closet), view on Stureplan / street, flat screen tv. The bed was perfect from my point of view, the bathroom had a big shower (rain shower head), floor heating and a heated towel dryer (hair dryer and plenty of towels were also available).

The first night I did had to get used to the street sounds: there was quite some noise (people and music from the bars, traffic) and despite I am kinda used to city sounds, I did put in ear plugs this night (this was a Friday night). The second night it was a bit better, I got used to it a bit more.

Breakfast was satisfying: eggs, bacon, baked bread, cereal, fruit, salmon (and some other Swedish specialities), juice, coffee and tea were available in buffet form.

Big plus: late check out on Sunday (14:00) was no problem at all. Staff was friendly. The old elevator adds a lot of charm to the hotel. Hotel bar has a great upstairs room where you can sit a bit more quietly. The living room space/library on the fourth floor is a great reading place.

Two less positive points: the chandelier on the ceiling was beautiful, but every time someone slammed the door in the hallway or the door of the elevator in the hallway shut, the chandelier started to shake and was very noisy. The second point was that it was very cold in the room: the small radiator wasn't enough to heat up the room (with its huge, beautiful ceiling). The hotel staff did know this and fixed it by placing and extra, portable radiator in our room.

Overall we had a great stay and we would stay here again if we were looking for a hotel in Stockholm city. I think I will pick a more quiet room on the inner part of the hotel next time though!

Room Tip: Rooms on street side are noisy in the weekends. Rooms with chandeliers look great, chandeliers do m...

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for taking your time to write your review and I'm happy to hear that your stay was satsifactory. Just as you mention, we are located in a busy district of the city (and in a city), so street sounds may be bothersome for some guest. I'm pleased to hear this wasn't too much of a problem for you. Nor the fact that the central heating system sometimes does have difficulties in coping with sudden change in temperature.
We will of course make sure that you have a quieter room for your next stay at Hotel Stureplan and do please feel free to contact me for a reservation.

Kind regards

“Awesome!”

This hotel baffled me! We didn't pay very much and received way more than we could dream of. It's number 11 of Stockholm hotels on TripAdvisor, but worth an even better place in this ranking!

Really friendly staff, they will help you with anything you ask. They even give you a card that will give you a discount with your taxi (if they order it for you)!

Breakfast was nothing special, but everything was delicious. We had a few busy mornings with a big crowd, but always place to sit and eat. No remarks! Caviar with fresh salmon and cream cheese, nice!

The room was really pretty. Just like on the pictures they post on their website, though it was a bit too small for my suitcase (or is it the other way around?). I didn't have a proper place to open my suitcase besides on the bed or in the isle - and if I did that you couldn't get in or out the bathroom. But I'll say it again: maybe my suitcase is too big.
We left for breakfast at approx. 8.45 and when we came back at 9.30 our room was FULLY cleaned with fresh soaps 'n liquids and fresh sheets AND coffee and tea. I'd advice you to hang out the 'Come in' cardboard if you leave for breakfast - we did that every day. If you're still in your room and 'Housekeeping!' knocks three times and you answer or they hear you, they'll just do another room first and finish your laters. Absolutely fabulous. I'll admit: I'll miss the bed. So comfortable!

The old elevator is absolutely awesome! With a max. of 3 people at a time I was a bit frightened (with my big, heavy suitcase) - but everything turned out fine. It opens with an old door, but on the inside there's an extra modern door too. Make sure that when you enter the elevator you shut the outer door correctly, because one time I pressed the button for 5 times and the elevator didn't came - because someone was bright enough to not shut the door correctly on the 5th floor...

When I entered the hallways of our floor, I had a 'Fawlty Towers'-feeling. This is a good thing, since I like Fawlty Towers. It felt cosy, warm and small and there was a nice vibe.

It's in a better, more expensive neighbourhood - so not in the center of the bruising Stockholm City. It is, though, only a small (5 to 10 minutes) walk away from just about everything. The excellent place for me to stay in a city. Close walk to everything and really quiet and cosy at evening/night/early morning.

If you travel to Stockholm, this definitely is the place to stay - for bussiness, with friends, solo or with your partner - it's all good, and especially at that price!

Room Tip: We sent an e-mail to the concierge with the request for a quiet room on the backside of the hotel, b...

“Good location, stylish decor, tiny, tiny room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Currently staying at the hotel stureplan for a wedding. Excellent location in terms of accessing the city easily. Good restaurant within walking distance recommended by hotel staff - sturehof. Minus points - asked staff for a bigger room and had to ask again the next day. Staying for four days and although the room is beautifully decorated with a reasonably sized bathroom, we haven't anywhere to unpack our clothes really aside from a very small closet/ minbar/ironing board storage/safe!!!! - yes it really is that small. We asked reception staff for the second time to move to a bigger room and they advised us we had one of the bigger rooms for the rate and they would charge us extra to accommodate our request. On this basis, I'm not sure what another reviewer paid for the pleasure of the huge rooms he talks about, but this clearly wasn't. Therefore avoid room 502. So would we return? Highly unlikely.

Room Tip: Avoid room 502!

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your review, although I'm very sorry to hear that your stay with us wasn't exactly to your liking, particularly when it comes to the size of the rooms.
It is indeed one of the issues when operating a hotel that is housed in a 19th century building, that one can't make all the rooms the exact same size and therefore almost all our rooms (in the same category) differ somewhat in size. Due to various angles in the building, some rooms may have quite a spacious room, whilst the bathroom is a bit smaller, sometimes it's the other way around. This is why, on our website, it states that the Superior rooms are between 17-22sqm.
I'm not quite sure what dates you stayed on, but I do apologize there not being possible to arrange a room change, as so you would have a room with larger living space.
Regarding upgrading, we do indeed charge an amount for upgrading to a larger room (category), which is standard procedure within hotels.
I will also add that with some of the previous reviews, the guests might have received a complementary upgrade, due to reasons such as overbooking.
In any case, I would like to offer you my apologies for not being able to make your stay as good and memorable as you, or we, would have liked. Should you come back to Stockholm, I would love to offer you a preferable rate and treatment should you choose to stay with us again. Just contact me throught email (adam.vm@hotelstureplan.se).

“Huge room, great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

We were in Stockholm in December and stayed here for four nights. I would highly recommend this hotel because: 1) the location is great. Östermalm is a lively neighborhood and all other neighborhoods (like the Old Town) are within walking distance. Birger Jarlsgatan is a long and busy street, where you'll find cinemas, shops and restaurants. 2) the room was excellent: we asked for a quiet room (because of what we read in some of the reviews) and booked a superior room. The room (on the fifth floor) was huge and oh so quiet! At first I was disappointed there was no bath, however the amazing shower more than made up for it. The bed was large and comfortable, and the room was very clean. 3) The staff were great: we asked by e-mail if they could book us a treatment in the Sturebadet, and they were happy to oblige. At arrival the staff was very friendly as well and there was someone at the desk 24 hours a day.
Breakfast was good. Plenty of choice from fruit to cereals to bread, eggs, fish and meat.
Should we ever go back, we will stay at this hotel again.
Be sure to book your day at Stockholm's oldest spa, the Sturebadet, through the hotel, you'll get a nice discount.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors are probably the quietest rooms.
