We stayed in Hotel Stureplan for a weekend in Stockholm. Location is great, in the middle of the city center and walking distance to tourist attractions, shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. We arrived a bit before official check in time (15:00), but the rooms were already ready upon arrival. We were asked if we wanted a room on the street side or room with a view on the inner garden - we chose the street side because the receptionist convinced us the view was much better.
While booking we did spent a bit of extra money on upgrading to a superior room. The room was very nice: spacious enough for the two of us (we put our small suitcases in the closet), view on Stureplan / street, flat screen tv. The bed was perfect from my point of view, the bathroom had a big shower (rain shower head), floor heating and a heated towel dryer (hair dryer and plenty of towels were also available).
The first night I did had to get used to the street sounds: there was quite some noise (people and music from the bars, traffic) and despite I am kinda used to city sounds, I did put in ear plugs this night (this was a Friday night). The second night it was a bit better, I got used to it a bit more.
Breakfast was satisfying: eggs, bacon, baked bread, cereal, fruit, salmon (and some other Swedish specialities), juice, coffee and tea were available in buffet form.
Big plus: late check out on Sunday (14:00) was no problem at all. Staff was friendly. The old elevator adds a lot of charm to the hotel. Hotel bar has a great upstairs room where you can sit a bit more quietly. The living room space/library on the fourth floor is a great reading place.
Two less positive points: the chandelier on the ceiling was beautiful, but every time someone slammed the door in the hallway or the door of the elevator in the hallway shut, the chandelier started to shake and was very noisy. The second point was that it was very cold in the room: the small radiator wasn't enough to heat up the room (with its huge, beautiful ceiling). The hotel staff did know this and fixed it by placing and extra, portable radiator in our room.
Overall we had a great stay and we would stay here again if we were looking for a hotel in Stockholm city. I think I will pick a more quiet room on the inner part of the hotel next time though!
