As mentioned in other reviews of the Best Western Capital, it is a cheap option. However, just because you are paying a small amount, does that also mean that you should expect in return a small amount of service, cleanliness, and comfort?
If you stay in this hotel, it appears the answer is yes.
I stayed here for a couple of nights (because it was booked for me) while attending a conference at the Stockholm International Fairs. The hotel is a 20 minute walk, or a five minute extortionate cab ride, from this venue. I did try to get a bus, but the hotel had run out of tickets. I did not have time to travel into Stockholm so cannot comment on the ease of this.
The hotel offers breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is a mediocre buffet. Between customers your table is cleaned by the staff running their hand across its crumb-strewn top. The “restaurant” ran out of hot food at 8pm on a Friday evening. The staff – who did speak good English – generally came across as being disinterested and were distinctly cold.
This distain towards service extended into the rooms. The two single beds pushed together were supremely uncomfortable. The furniture was outdated and worn, despite the claim that rooms had been refurbished in 2010. The Best Western website says the hotel has Sky TV network in the rooms. In fact, the TV in my room had eight channels, three of which were showing the same station.
Worse than any of this was the lack of adequate cleaning. The tiny bathroom was filthy and even though the towels were changed daily, they still felt used and dirty. I am not sure if the bed linen was changed at all, but from my first night in the room the sheets smelled used and unclean. After one night I was longing to get home for a shower.
So, inexpensive it may be. But if you do stay at the Capital Hotel, even though you might be a bit better off financially, you will feel a whole lot poorer in terms of well-being. I am astounded that Best Western would put their name on the door of such an establishment: I guess this shows their dedication to customers. Please, spend just a little more and avoid this hotel.
