“Try this hidden treasure!”

When I discovered that there would be a huge convention in Stockholm during our visit and rooms at the big hotels were scarce or non-existent, I was thrilled when Parlan Hotell could accommodate us in two double rooms for four nights. When we arrived (our taxi driver had no trouble finding it) I was stumped. There was a code at the door of the building to permit entrance. A kind person leaving the building let me in and I climbed the three floors to the hotel only to find another code needed to enter the hotel with a number to call in case of emergency if no one answered the bell. Great--what now and what had I gotten myself and friends into? With no phone, we scouted for one and stopped at a Clarion Hotel around the corner whose receptionist helpfully dialed the number for us and got the missing code. It turns out the owner's email to me with the code had gone into my spam file. After we finally got into the hotel it was a fantastic experience! Our rooms were immaculate and plenty spacious, The entire property is spotless (not just clean, seriously did not see one single scuff on a wall or dust in a corner) with very upscale decor--a very fine boutique hotel at (for Stockholm) a bargain price. Breakfast was a feast of fresh breads, two kinds of herring that I grew most fond of, cereals, boiled eggs, and gourmet meats and cheeses. One evening we picked up deli items and wine for dinner and set on comfy couches and chairs around a large coffee table in the breakfast room to share our feast. Had the weather been warmer, we could have set on a balcony overlooking a lovely courtyard. Gustav, his wife and other staff could not have been more friendly nor helpful and made several contacts and reservations for us as well as having breakfast ready a little early on Saturday morning so we could make it to the airport on time). As others complained, water from our shower did have to go to a drain in the middle of the bath but we learned quickly to use the squigee provided to dry it up. I try to locate interesting yet affordable accommodations when we travel but can never remember finding any nicer that the Parlan and would not even consider staying anywhere else should I ever return to Stockholm.

Room Tip: Our friends room had their shower drain inside the shower so you might request it if a wet floor bot...

“Excellent Value For The Budget Conscious Traveler”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2011

Tucked away on a quiet street, Skeppargatan, Parlan Hotell Stockholm couldn't be any more conveniently situated. It is an ideal spot for visitors looking for a safe, comfortable haven, smack in the middle of town, without having to necessarily break the bank.

The establishment has an interesting history: Once an all-girl’s school dating back roughly 60 years, today it has been transformed into a pretty smart looking, cozy, bed and breakfast packed with value for the budget conscious traveler.

Being a solo traveler on this particular trip, I booked a single room for my stay (though to my understanding, doubles are available as well). My room was of adequate size (perhaps a tad on the smaller size--which wasn't terribly surprising as it's largely to be expected in a city that carries a premium on just about everything). It had a single bed that was comfortable enough, a workstation, small bathroom (with all in one hair+shower gel dispensers), small closet, TV (non-flat screen), and a window that faced a charming courtyard.

Parlan features a standard continental breakfast buffet (included in your reservation) and can be enjoyed in the dining hall adjacent to the kitchen. It is served through 10:00AM, though I would advise verifying with the staff to ascertain.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Gustav and his team were excellent and ensured I, like other patrons, were well catered for. Parlan is a great alternative (to otherwise pricey hotels) in Stockholm.

“A Real Find in a Really Expensive City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

Perhaps the most daunting challenge of touring Stockholm is finding creative ways to sidestep the often staggering costs associated with dining, shopping, sightseeing and, of course, lodging.  And it is the  latter of these costs where Hotel Parlan can help, for here is a quality accommodation that won't break the touristic budget.

Staying at Hotel Parlan is not exactly inexpensive, but given its competition, the approximate $188 US dollars per night cost is quite reasonable.  What is more, the Parlan comes with a friendly welcome, good sized double rooms, and bright, appealing public spaces, all in a
location that, while not atmospheric, is both safe and a short, five minute walk to Stockholm's beautiful waterfront.

Fodder's guide to Scandinavia is enthusiastic about Hotel Parlan, yet it argues the hotel is a bit worn around the edges.  This is only partly true.  Indeed, save for some outdated
bathroom fixtures and bedroom styling (our double room was furnished in a rather Spartan, haphazard way), the Parlan offers fresh, brightly styled public rooms that invite relaxation.  There is a communal fridge filled with an assortment of snacks and liquid pick me ups.  Another plus is a small porch that provides views into the courtyard of the building.

In some ways, the title that precedes Parlan is a bit misleading, as this accommodation seems more of a bed and breakfast than a hotel.  The Parlan has a friendly, intimate quality about it, and that's good.  Breakfast is taken by guests from the kitchen and then brought to
the dining area.  While the food as a whole is not distinctive, there is much of it, everything
from cereals to cheese, veggies to yogurt drinks.  This traveler especially liked the variety of breads.  Unfortunately, the most important part of any breakfast -coffee - was not worthy of this fine accommodation.

A couple closing notes about our double room: while the room did not offer air conditioning, a helpful metal fan played an important role in eliminating stale air; and the shower, while rather outdated, offered plenty of hot water.  In short, our bedroom did not disappoint.

When considering a trip to Stockholm, the traveler would be well advised to choose the Hotel Parlan.  Centrally located, attractively priced, with first rate service, this is a real find in a really expensive European capital.

“Good option in Stockholm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

This is not a luxury or full-service hotel but it deserves proper consideration. Parlan has a great location in an upscale and central part of Ostermalm. The building is elegant, with a courtyard, balcony and large sitting room. Laundry facilities are available. The room was very clean. Breakfast was very generous. FYI, there is no staff on duty in the afternoons so it's almost like having your own apartment. For the price, this is a good option in Stockholm. The bed could be more comfortable and there is no A/C but Gustav will do whatever he can to make your time in Stockholm pleasant. I will probably be back.
