It was my first trip to Stockholm and this hotel made it a good one. Happy to see on line reviews can be trusted! Most give the Berns a good grade and I agree. I found it a lovely, lively and very personable place to stay while spending two days in the city.
Design is a big deal in Sweden as we know and it takes a big centre stage at Berns. Rooms are decorated with a mix of sleek and stylish modern furniture, all needed electronic amenities, combined with odd pop art on walls (Lomography on lucite, scrap collages with oil and paper) and the even odder 1940-ish piece of wood furniture (which works). Eclectic even for Stockholm. Beds were soft and the sleep good, although if you are a stickler about sheets you might want for a higher thread count beneath your bones. But only if you are really posh and not tired. Otherwise, you will sleep like a baby.
The hotel manger, Anna, leads a well trained and personable team which made sure my room, 105, a lovely suite with a terrace overlooking a patio) ready for my arrival, complete with wine and chocolates. Good reading materials were provided, even Swedish and English versions of "The Girl Who Played With Fire".... good way to extend the experience.
Closets were well equipped with real hangers (not the ones that you have to thread back into the holders....) and there was no lack of amenities. Towels were super absorbant and the rainfall showerhead refreshing.
Breakfast was wonderful! Lovely selection of fruits, fruit smoothies and yogurts... the buffet invited you to fill your plate with organic mixtures of flaxen seed, interesting mixes of delicious teas and breads, as well as a good range of cheeses and meats.
We also had dinner the night before at the Asian restaurant. We had a lovely curry and veggies, service was relaxed, the environment very appealing with beautiful low lighting and an eclectic mix of people.
Definitely would return.... thank you Stockholm! Thank you Berns!
