“It works for business trips”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2007

This hotel is fairly out of the city, so if you are on holiday book something else, because the money you save on rates, you'll spend on cans and other forms of transportation. For business travelers, however, it workd perfectly: it is close to the major business and shopping areas.

Book well in advance, and then you have the chance of securing a reasonable rate (not easy in Stockholm), for which you get a tidy, nordic-style room, free internet, and a great breakfast. book a room away from the staircase and elevators, they tend to be a bit noisy.

“Hot, one night stay!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2007

Arrival: This was the second hotel we stayed at (2 nights) as part of a 13 day “Highlights of Scandinavia” Trafalgar Cost Saver trip. As such we didn’t have to deal directly with the staff for check-in. The staff organised our room keys quite promptly and we were checked in within minutes.

Location: This hotel is quite a fair way out of the city centre, however it is across the road from a major bus interchange and it looked like it would be quite easy to get in on your own. Across the road was (apparently) the largest IKEA store in the world and across form this is a fairly large supermarket and ATM. Also if you turn left out of the hotel front door and walk to the roundabout, you can’t help see the McDonalds across the road.

Accommodation: We stayed during a fairly hot period and we felt it on the 5th floor. There’s no air conditioning and we couldn’t get much of a breeze into the room, making it very hot during the night. Because of the heat, we needed to leave the window open and unfortunately this meant we heard trucks turning up and parking directly opposite, waiting for IKEA to open in the morning and of course they kept their trucks idling for ages, constantly waking us up. If the windows were shut it probably wouldn’t have been that noticeable except to alight sleeper. We didn’t however have any neighbour noises. The rooms consisted of carpeted floors and timber furniture including two single beds. They were firm but not hard and the pillows very soft. There was no minibar (or fridge). The bathroom looked like it had been refurbished but the toilet was stained but otherwise clean and there was dirt on the floor but little to no mould in the shower. The shower water was hot but the pressure was on the low side. Soap on tap and no tissues. There was also a wonderful hinged shower screen door, which contained the shower spray very nicely and then swung into the shower area to give more room in the bathroom. The best memory was of the lifts, where you had to swing the doors open and close yourself – I didn’t think lifts like this would still be in use anywhere.

Food: We had an included diner, which was ok – nothing really to write home about. Filled us up but not a restaurant I’d walk in off the street to go to. Breakfast was about a 6 out of 10. Hot and cold choices, filled you up but again nothing fantastic.

Service: Didn’t have any interactions with staff, so can’t comment.

Overall: This hotel is really more like a motel. It was ok for a one night stay and really that’s what it services best.

Tip: If you’re considering doing this tour and want to see reviews of other hotels, the next hotel we stayed at was the Quality Hotel Grand Gjovik, (of course by myself - GR8FUN).

  • Liked — Old fashioned lifts (elevators)
  • Disliked — Heat and no Air Cond.

“Would not recommend!”

I stayed with a group of peope in this hotel for a year ago, and I have to say that it is one of the worst hotels I have visited ever. And then I am not soo picky with hotels...well, the staff was maybe the only thing that was ok in this place, at least they were smiling and saying hello, but the both the rooms and the restaurant sucked!

The rooms we had booked was pretty small and had a not so nice smell when we entered the room. The view of the room was terrible, if you looked from the window the sight you could see was a empty backyard with some full containers......not soo nice.... :)

Maybe one thing that make me dislike this hotel was that the food was really bad. The staff in the restaurant did not really know what they should do, they were unsure about the food and drink prices when we asked them, and when we got the food, it was not even really eatable. And I am not kidding...the beef was bloody inside, the vegetables was almost burned, and the french fries tasted old. I did eat the food, but felt really sick after that. After that dinner I had to rush to the toilet directly....The food was not acceptable at all, it costed us over 100 sek. and I wouldn´t payed even half of it....

well, thats my experience of this hotel, if your planning to go to stockholm take another hotel, there are even cheaper hotels in the area with much better service and standard!

I was there many times in the mid-nineties. It has the appeal of an older european hotel. The complimentary breakfast is great. The rooms are a bit small. And if you visit in June, bring something to cover your eyes and ears. The sun sets after 10:30 PM and rises around 2:00 AM. You'll get little sleep due to the midnight sun and jet-lag.
