I stayed at the Lord Nelson for two nights in October 2011. The hotel has a highly developed nautical theme right down to the floors having deck names. Every detail in the hotel has been thoroughly design to give a ship-like feeling. The place is dripping with atmosphere and is very cosy. Staff was very friendly and nice. The location is as good as it gets, right in the hart of Stockholms old town.
My room was small. I normally like big rooms, but I did not really mind the size of this one, even though it probably was one of the smallest I have stayed in. It somehow felt right for the theme and with the fact that this is a very old house tucked inbetween other old houses in the oldest part of the city. But, hotel rooms should not be smaller than this, and many will find it very small indeed. My one actual complaint about the room was that it was a bit dark. Too dark to read in bed. And the only light switch was by the door, so you had to stumble in darkness from the door to the bed.
Another downside of the hotel is that it is beginning to show a bit wear and tear and would benefit from a bit of refurbishment. Breakfast could also have been better. And I thought that the price was a bit high compared to the feel og the hotel.
This is a small, quite modest hotel without a bar or restaurant, but if that is ok with you, and if you like the general appearence og it, you may love it.
I find it difficult to set the rating on this. I thought it was ok with some aspects being very good and some not so good. I left with a good feeling. The reason I only put up three dots for the rating is that objectively compared to other hotels, this is where I think it is.
