I was on my first ever trip to Sweden, going for a days worth of interview for a new company. I had scant instructions, just that I was fly to Copenhagen then get the train to Malmo, check into this hotel, then wait outside at a pre-arranged time and this guy called Ian, that I'd never met before, would come and meet me. All very 007!
Anyway, I had a pretty trouble free trip, arrived at Malmo Railway station on time after a comfortable ride from Copenhagen airport, and was relieved to find the Hotel was exactly where I was told it would be. The public areas looked nice and clean to me, the guy on reception was very polite and spoke perfect English (this is my experience commonly in Swedish hotels I must admit). My room was nicely furnished, very clean, comfortable, and it was nice to stay in a "business" hotel that was a bit different in design and decor. Very pleasant. Anyway, I met Ian and we went out for a beer and then something to eat. It was bloomin' cold for March (maybe not in Sweden) and I was struck at how quiet it was everywhere, this being an important town and all. Again, this seems to be pretty common in Sweden, I think mainly because alcohol is taxed highly and its expensive to go out on the beer. Anyway, we had a very pleasant meal and I tried some excellent local beer, and Ian tried to kid me that the next day was going to be easy! It wasn't, by the way, I spent an hour being grilled by all the top bods in turn for a total of about 8 hours! Got the job though!
Anyway, back to the hotel, I had an acceptable breakfast, lots of nice coffee as I remember. Its important to note I think that a lot of swedish people in business have fica when they get to work, which is kind of a "not long after you get to work" coffee break with breakfasty type stuff, or litlle bit later in the morning with cake!
Check out was simple and efficient, even though it was to be invoiced to the company, which can often be quite complicated in many places.
So, a nice clean pleasant functional hotel, in central malmo, very close to Railway station. Thats just what I needed and I certainly have no complaints!
