I booked the Scandic Sundsvall City as it was easy to reserve a room online and seemed close to the centre of the city.
Arrival was OK, it is difficult to miss the large hotel building when approaching by car. They have a garage under the hotel for parking.
The first problem came after checking in. Our first room had a sink in the bathroom which wasn't connected to the drain pipe! In fairness the girl on reception sorted us out a change of room straight away, but it wasn't an ideal start to our stay.
The hotel in general is a little dated in feel. This seems a shame as it does have the potential to be better. The bar near reception was nice and the staff friendly. There is a cinema next door which seemed popular with locals. Unfortunately some of the other hotel's claimed features (e.g. golf simulator) seem to have long since been removed.
It is about a 10 minute walk to the centre of the city, which is a fairly small place. Another tip would be not to go to Sundsvall in the second week of July as the place is dead (apparently everyone was on holiday) and many of the restaurants didn't even open.
We used Sundsvall as a base to explore the High Coast further north but, to be honest, you would probably be better off finding a small hotel in the national park area itself as Sundsvall as a place felt somewhat lacking in character and life!
