We came here for the second year in a row, with four children aged 8 - 15. Charming city, good location, friendly staff, excellent food, lovely and recently refurbished rooms -- all you can ask for. There can be a bit of noise from the streets (people, not cars) when you have the windows open, but that's the only complaint we have. And remember: Don't miss Furuviken zoo and amusement park in the summer -- a great place! Many good museums in town, too.

Perfectly reasonable hotel. The room was clean, though plain and without many features (no minibar, but did have trouser press).

Inclusive breakfast was excellent - just about anything one could want cold + eggs and bacon.

Ten minutes walk from station and in the middle of town.

I spent a long time here (2 months) on a trip for work. The room was very clean and comfortable. The free breakfast downstairs is huge, they go overboard, and it's great. I spent quite a bit of time in the bar/restaurant, service is excellent, they fix really good hamburgers, and have a decent variety on the menu. The few times I went down to the pool, I had it to myself. The hotel is just across from the main square, where there's some shops, movie theater, etc. Gavle is not a huge town, but there is enough there to keep you occupied. The bank, grocery store, liqour store, etc., are all a brief walk from the hotel. There are several clubs there, and most of the people I encountered spoke clear English. Stockholm is about an hour away by train, and the station's within walking distance of the hotel. If you stay here, go downstairs and have a red bull w/vodka, and the svardfisk (grilled swordfish) it's delicious. My employer put me up here, but if I went to Gavle on a personal trip, this is where I would stay without a doubt.
