We stayed one night end of May.
The hotel was good, quite big and with view on the iron mine. The room was clean and we had free wireless internet (like in every scandic if I am not mistaken).
Tried the sauna, was great with a nice view.
There is two restaurants withing the building. One classic and one steakhouse. We choose the steak house. Not a huge choice (probably because it was the low season), but the food was very good.
A lot of choice at the breakfast.
All in all I enjoyed my stay at the Scandic Ferrum :) The hotel rooms were clean, pleasant and modern. The location itself was close to shops and a few restaurants/cafes, however it must be said it isn't the prettiest area of Kiruna, they get much more beautiful the further you head towards the Ice Hotel.
The service itself is what made me mark down this hotel, reception staff weren't overly helpful at times.
This is more of a comparison but, I was also disappointed that coffee/tea wasn't included in the lounge area. The Clarion Collection in Tromso, offered free waffles, fruit juice, coffee and tea all day long. It might not sound like much but it makes such a difference to your stay at times after coming in from the cold outside to a nice afternoon waffle and coffee :)
Overall, a pleasant stay, best thing being the actual hotel rooms :)
The hotel is centrally located in the middle of the town with easy walking to shops and places to eat. There are plenty of places to get something to each including a restaurant in the same building as the hotel (although not part of the hotel). Car rental is about 100 meters from the hotel and the train station about 15 minutes walk.
The room was bigger than average and in good condition. The views from the front of the hotel look towards the water and the train station.
Breakfast was very good, with a good selection of hot and cold food, all of a good quality. The gym facilities are also all good.
The staff were efficient and helpful, giving us advise on where we might go for a shot walk after we had been sitting in the car for a long time.
Internet and parking are free.
Kiruna has the most beautiful building int Sweden as voted by the people of Sweden - take a look for yourself!!
Stuff had a hard time to find the booking and even harder to understand the meaning of "to be invoiced" as it clearly stated on the confirmation. The room itself had a recent facelift but the bathroom was still the original 50´s for the whole building to be torn down as the mines nearby expand. Stayed for two night and the breakfastbuffet didint offer bacon on any of the mornings. Though there was a avriety of other dishes and fruits.
