My wife, daughter and I went to the Dedeman Olive Tree for 6 nights in May 2006. It was my second time there, as I had already been alone for one week in May 1998. Already at that time, I loved the place, even if it was more complicated to go there as we had to fly straight to Ercan airport on the Turkish side of Cyprus. Today, all is much simpler and we could easily fly to Larnaca, rent a car and drive over to Kyrenia.
In 1998, the hotel was known to have the largest pool in the TRNC. I don't know if they are still number 1 nowadays, but the pool is still very large and pleasant. Since 1998, they have added a fitness center with massage rooms, and a casino!
When we checked in, we received 2 nice suites next to each other, close to the pool. All staff members very incredibly friendly and helpful. We received plenty of free drinks (they "forgot" on purpose to charge them to the rooms), the rooms were always very clean, and the food (buffets) was always excellent. The buffets change everyday, but for someone who stays for more than one week, there might be a chance to find some repetitive plates.
We also received 400 tokens to use at the casino, which gave us a lot of fun during one evening. A free pool table next to the restaurant helped us to improve our playing techniques.
This hotel is mainly used by Turkish tourists. We were the only foreigners there. They even told us that they had never seen French speaking guests like us before (most of the visitors are English or Germans).
Some refurbishment works would however be welcome, especially to renew the bathrooms (they still are very small and use old British faucets which are not always reliable): They could also easily remove the carpets to put tiles on the floors (even if I guess it can be cold in January). Some painting could also be done on the bungalows outside.
Even if the hotel is quite remote (8 km from Kyrenia, in Catalkoy), a free shuttle goes often the city center of Kyrenia. However, a rental car is your best bet on this island, and plenty of parking spaces are available.
