“Okay for a night or two”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

The rooms do not have the best interiors which includes the bed, which wasn't very comfortable. The bathroom was a bit shabby and I think mine had a peculiar smell coming from the toilet. The toilet wasn't the cleanest, though. I would have complained but I was staying here for only one night where I came back to the room late (office event). The breakfast was good with enough variety on offer. The coffee was not good though - very thin. I made a call to the reception couple of times and it seems like it takes them forever answer the phone. One of the times though they did pick up and put me on hold for sometime before I could say anything, I gave up after waiting for some time. However they did call me back to follow up on the call. Another thing I did not like about the hotel is that it is connected and recommended through the Roskilde Kongress Center, which hosts numerous events and exhibitions. I am sure the hotel gets a lot or most of their clientele from them, yet they have no way of transfer between the two places. It is fine to walk 800m back and forth but not several times during a day or in heels. So maybe they can consider having a shuttle service? Anyway this is an average hotel good for one night stays if concerning an event or proximity to a certain location otherwise I would suggest that you look for another place.

Room Tip: Try to get the ones facing the lake

“Three nights - one bad, two good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2011

On a business meeting in Roskilde I stayed at this hotel.
The hotel is a 10-15 minutes walk away from the city center, and you are relatively close to the railway station (10 minutes walk) that can take you to Copenhagen in about 20-25 minutes.
The rooms are normal Scandic style, with comfortable beds and average room size.
The breakfast is served in the restaurant, which is also good for dinner in the evening.

I had a bad experience with the hotel, as the room I got was a room that was used for smoking.
It was claimed that the room was non-smoking room, but the smell in the room was heavy and not comfortable at all.
The reception told me they had no other available rooms, but I could sleep there one night, and they could change rooms the next day.
I slept part of the night with the window open, but had to close it again as the trains on the train station was noisy on that side of the hotel.
The next day they changed the room for me, and I got a room without the smell of smoking that was facing the park on the backside of the hotel.
They did not compensate me on my bill for my problems.

All in all a good hotel to stay in, with good breakfast and good rooms. If you like to sleep with the window open, ask for a room on the hotel side that faces the park.

While in Roskilde, I would recommend to eat at Restaurant Mumm. Expensive, but good food.

“Average hotel, quite expensive for what you get”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2011

We stayed one night at this hotel, because we were going to visit the Viking Ship Museum the following morning. It is quite far outside the town centre, but it has free parking and it only takes a few minutes to drive to the museum.
Check-in was easy and staff were in general quite friendly. There is only one elevator (or maybe there's a second in the other wing), it is small, quite cold inside and smells strange.
The room was small and had a wooden floor, no carpets or rugs. Moving the chair across the floor made a lot of noise, it would be good to have these soft "shoes" on the chair. The beds were comfortable, but there was only one pillow per bed and one bed was very squeaky. The room was facing the main road and traffic could be heard even with closed windows.
The bathroom was very simple, and there were just a few towels, no flannels and no bath mat for when you step out of the shower. The soap dispenser was very high above the basin, not very convenient and comfortable for shorter people. We had free internet and several international TV channels. The door to the hallway was very thin, but luckily the hotel was not very busy. We could hear a lot of sounds from the hallway when people walked past the room, even the breathing of a dog at one point. I would recommend bringing ear plugs.
Dinner and breakfast were fine. The restaurant seemed a bit dated and they had removed all pictures from the walls, so they may be modernising it soon.
All in all a rather average hotel for a rather high price.

“Typical provincial Scandic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2010

I like staying at Scandics: I travel alone on business, and they're very convenient, easy to find in every Scandinavian country.
I arrived mid-morning and was able to check-in early, relax a bit and then go out to my afternoon appointment. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was nothing special - Scandic rooms aren't. Strangely a similar room on the outskirts of Copenhagen would have been cheaper - can't see why though. It was quiet, well lit, and as always the free Scandic WiFi made picking up email etc totally pain free.
Dinnner in the evening was well presented, cooked well and not too expensive. Service was good, but the ambience is somewhat lacking. Breakfast in the same room next morning was excellent as always, fresh food, both cold and hot in limitless quantities if you so desired.

“Typical Scandic Hotel :(”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2010

When I arrived at the Scandic and tried to check in the person at the reception already gave me the impression that I'm bothering him - I didn't feel exactely treated as a welcomed guest. How could I dare to arrive while he was reading the newspaper? I had a lot of luggage but he didn't even get the idea to ask if I need help with my luggage.

The room was spacious but very very basic. No air conditioning available, so I had to leave the window open. The bathroom was old and not very clean and there was one large towel and one small. No bath mat, no bathroom shoes, not even soap apart from a dispenser which looked like it belongs into a public toilet.

In the breakfast room the coffee was already sitting there for hours and didn't taste fresh. There was a reasonable variety of food however nothing looked fresh, probably everything vacuum packed convenience food. Well.

I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone - especially as the room rates are not cheap at all. If I'd have paid 40 Euro a night I'd say it's probably okay but not for more than twice the room rate.
