… also history, charm and comfort. Frequently host to Hans Christian Andersen and other worthies over the centuries, the Hotel Prindsen today is a delightful experience and a good place for work or leisure. I have stayed here on a number of occasions (for business and as a tourist) and am never disappointed. The rooms are a good size, very comfortable, clean and quiet. I ask for a “Nordic” style room facing into the ivy-covered courtyard.
The staff are particularly friendly and helpful. Would rate them a "6" if I could. The charming lobby area and tables outside in the courtyard are a good place to sit and have a coffee, dispensed free of charge from a quality individual brew station. Breakfast, which usually comes with the room rate, is very good.
The hotel faces one of the main shopping streets which is closed to vehicular traffic. There are several good restaurants near by, including one in the hotel. Just down the street is the remarkable Roskilde Cathedral (Domkirke). The present structure dates from the 12th century, and the site has been the last resting place of Denmark’s kings and queens for a thousand years. The parks, side streets, harbour and the Viking Ship Museum are other must-sees nearby. The town is also home to one of Europe’s largest annual music festivals each year in late June.
