“the idea of "youth hotel"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

is not to be crappy.
Of course if you pay cheap accomodation, you don't expect 3 star hotel. But a decent shower, sink room to brush your teeth (which you won't find, just go in the toilets) most of showers are mixed in toilets rooms. 8/
On top of that, very noisy until 2 am (approx) if you are unlucky and (try to) sleep over the bar.

Only good point is : downtown.

“Close to rip off. To many ad´s on and to low quality”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

To many adds to the price stated. Sheets, special DanHostel card, breakfast etc, luagage keeper etc.... It all add´s up. So in the end you are better of taking a hotel with a bathroom (not included in Copenhagen Downtown).
Also the service and the rooms are not good. The rooms are VERY small and we had no light in our room since the bulbs were missing. It took two days for the reception to fix this. Not good service.
Only good thing to say is the locating in the center and maybe the bar in the weekend. But you have plenty of other places to go to.
Good luck...

“Cosy and Clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

The Danhostel in Copenhagen is a really nice and cosy hostel. The general area is very nice, with a kind staff. It's good to hang around for the whole night, we had a lot of fun there.
We went there with 4 friends and stayed in a 4 person room that wasn't very big, but big enough. Very clean and not loud at all. And very cheap for Copenhagen standards.
We were very happy we stayed in DanHostel, it made our stay in Copenhagen very pleasant.

Room Tip: If you are traveling with friends, you should sleep in a private 4/5 person room, its not much more...

“Nice personnel, good accomodation”

Minimal room, very small bathrooms but very clean. Personnel was helpful and competent, good tourists information in the hall as well as a nice dining ambient.

“Not good if you like to sleep”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Booked 2 nights at CPH for a recent holiday and while there were many pros, the cons included paper-thin walls. Combined with loud neighbors, it resulted in no sleep and my checking out early to spend my second night at another hotel.

The pros include really friendly staff, amazing location (a few minutes from the main shopping street, Stroget), the cheapest bar in town (generous happy hour from 30 DKK), and a cozy lounge/reception area. When I complained about the noise, too, the woman at the reception, Kat, was very understanding and did her best to help me, as did her manager, Martin. The three of us worked out an equitable arrangement for my checking out early.

However, there were a few cons to the place. For one, the room smelled like sweat and what really creeped me out was that my pillow did too. Also, the shower in our bathroom was not enclosed, but just a shower room. We couldn't get any hot water for the shower.

By far the worst aspect of the hostel is its paper-thin walls. We unfortunately stayed next-door to a group of really loud partiers who woke us up at 4am by shouting, banging on the walls, knocking over bottles, and off-key singing (not that it would have been appreciated if it were on-key, however). This continued until 5:30am. Needless to say, it was impossible to sleep because they were loud even with my earplugs in. Incidentally, even if there were no partiers, you can easily hear people talking in the hallways and doors slamming shut, etc.

The next morning, still seething with rage (exacerbated by lack of sleep), I checked out and booked alternative accommodation (the Hotel Ansgar, which was absolutely lovely). True, while this hostel has many positives, if you are a light sleeper and/or not fond of partying neighbors, I would definitely NOT recommend CPH.
