“Very close to Central Station”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

This place is literally 3 minutes walk from the main train station, from the airport, takes 12 minutes, runs every 10 minutes, costs DKK 36 or DKK 59 return. The hotel lobby is pleasant enough, rooms are ok, free wifi is good option, I didn't use it so can't really say how good quality was? Breakfast was utter rubbish, bread with sliced ham and strong cheese, few selections of fruit and tea / coffee. Some cereals but no hot food, some hard boiled eggs, that's it...

If you do intend to pay by cash, dont let them "swipe your card" too long to go into...

Staff are pleasant, except elderly man on check in late in night, 10pm, he was bit grumpy... Must have had a long day!!

Would I stay here again, yes, but would eat breakfast elsewhere...

“Best hotel Istedgade?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Istedgade is a street close to Copenhagen Train Station.
It's a bit of a shanky place of Copenhagen with mostly sex shops and hotels which succeed each other along the street.
But there are also where most hotels are, especially those who are decent prices!
The quality varies enormously depending on which hotel you choose to Istedgarde, so here I think really you should use TripAdvisor when choosing a hotel in Istedgarde.

Absalon Hotel is in my opinion one of the best hotels on this street. This is where the Danish convivial unit and the staff really cares about his guests. Beautiful place with beautiful beds and a breakfast buffet which is undoubtedly the best of the ones I ate in Copenhagen.

You can reach "Rådhuspladsen", the city's central square in 5 minutes and from there you will come to Copenhagen's main street "Strøget" which takes you down to Nyhavn with all its Restaurants.
Some warning at Istedgarde during the nights, when many injecting drug users are staying here and there is a small risk that you may be blue robbed, do not want to exaggerate the risk in any way.
To the famous free-city Christiania is about 20 minutes walk from the hotel. It can be difficult to find unless you know of Copenhagen. Where does it go to the main street "Strøget" until you get to "Kongens Nytorv" and from there take the metro to "Christianshavn" and then ask to Christiania, the people in that part of Copenhagen are used to it.

I'm Swedish and live close to Copenhagen, and among us Swedes Hotel Absalon known as a hotel that cares about its guests and maintains a high quality and good prices in a central part of the city.

“Clean but outdated.”

I don't know whether it was something we did wrong but we ended up in a room that hadn't changed since the 1970s. It was very clean, and quiet. Breakfast was fine, but the atmosphere was very odd - a bit like a British Seaside bed and breakfast where no-one speaks. I doubt I would choose to return until the place is refurbished.

Kudos to the cleaning staff for their sterling efforts in keeping the place very clean though.

“Great stay, lovely hotel, would use again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We stayed here in Jan 2012. Lovely hotel. Friendly welcome from the reception team, and a lovely room on the top floor (I think we had a superior room). Beds were very comfy, we had our own heating controller, hotel was lovely and quiet, we couldn't hear much from next door or out in the corridors. Plenty of hot water in a clean and neat bathroom with bath tub and shower.

Breakfast was plentiful with cereal, many breads (and a toaster), danish pastries, cold meats, cheese, pate, rolls, juices, coffee and multi types of tea (inc PG tips!). the staff work hard in this breakfast area to keep it tidy and topped up all the time. They also leave any leftover pastries out during the day, wrapped from freshness and you can help yourself.

Great location too. Near to central station. Very easy to find, 2 min walk if that from station. Trains from airport run every 10 mins, and it takes 12 mins. This cost 18 DKR each way per person. Bargain considering a taxi would have been 270 DKR. It so easy to walk to transfer yourself really no point getting a taxi - save your money as Copenhagen is not a cheap city! This hotel is on the edge of the red light district but we never saw any 'trade' going on like you might in UK red light areas. A few sex shops selling their goods, but really nothing to worry about!

Definitely would stay here again, especially if we got a superior room again. Thank you Hotel Absalon we had a great time! (and for a restaurant tip try Bento's Japanese directly opposite the hotel entrance - the best Japanese ever (make sure you book though!)

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor!

“5-star hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

Just returned from yet another stay at the Absalon. By coincidence, I got the exact same room as last time, so nothing new there. Still stylish the oldfashioned (good) way and comfortable room, B&O tv, refrigerator, coffee maker etc., bathroom w/ bathtub.
But front desk staff was just so helpful and amazing; they really go out of their way to accommodate your needs.
The breakfast buffet has the yummiest Danish bread and pastries and a selection of all the stuff I need for breakfast. Much better than most 3- and 4-star hotels.

Low season prices are quite good, and excellent value-for-money!

Bonusinfo: Just a few steps from the hotel entrance, you find the traditional japanese Bento restaurant, where they haven't adjusted the menu card to the European taste buds. Only go there if you really like japanese food! (I do!)
