“Looking forward to my next stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I had a room on the 3rd floor, in a Balinese style with two large windows letting the sunrise in every morning, a fantastic comfortable double bed, a desk for work with free wireless Internet access, enough space for my suitcase, wardrobe containing a robe, slippers, iron and ironing board, a large bathroom with a bathtub (like I requested), organic toiletries and hairdryer. There’s a lift from the reception, or you can choose to take the stairs for exercise. In the morning they serve organic breakfast in the dining area. On one occasion, when I didn’t have time for breakfast but rushed in for a quick coffee, the staff prompted me to at least have a homemade smoothie on the go. And it saved my morning for sure!
The only problem with this hotel is that you’re not tempted to go out clubbing as it’s so nice to come back “home” to your cozy room, made up to impeccable standard by the housekeeper every day and to jump into the snug bed for a night in instead.

Room Tip: I requested a bathtub in advance and was very pleased I did get a room with one. The staff really tr...

What a perfect little hotel! Wonderful rooms, ours with a balcony, four poster bed and original furnishing sourced from around the world. The neighborhood is away from the touristy areas of Nuhaven and close all the great restaurants, shops, bars and cafes of Vesterbro and Norrebro. The owner was always on hand with helpful advise and recommendations - of places that were actually great - not business ties with the hotel!
Already planning my return....

Room Tip: We had a room at the back, I can imagine that in a room at the front, you you be able to hear street...

“Lovely stay in a lovely city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

I recently visited here with my mother and both mine and her partner's.
The hotel is very comfortable; we were upgraded to a back facing room-not a brilliant view but the fourn poster bed and bath were lovely. Usual city sized rooms; large enough but dont expect huge (my mothers shower room was very small but we had the bath room which was of better proportions with a lovely roll top bath)
The breakfast was nice but was missed on Sunday by my mother as it was simply too busy which is a little offputting (especially as it was the best-some more choice from the contential of the week)-it felt like you were actually in someones kitchen which was great whern there were only a few people in (ran into one of the owners children making banana loaf for breakfast, which was delicious and quite put mine to shame!)
There is no room service or food and do not go if you are wanting all the usual services of a big hotel as you wont find it here. There were drinks available but not late and the reception isnt 24 hours
The location is about 7-10 mins by bus into the city and the route is ok but is another 15 min walk from the harbour areas so a taxi is needed (about £15 ish). The bus was a little expensive (£2.4 per trip) so if you want location this probably isnt the place for you but the bus service is amazing if you dont mind that.
The best thing was the lovely family feel and the wonderful service from the owner who was so helpful! There isnt really anywhere to eat that was nice locally but there was a brilliant little pub/restaurant around the corner called Klubber. Wow! Go hungry (four plates barely fitted on a table for 6) and be prepared for a slightly shabby look but amazing service and brilliant traditional danish food (stew was fab)
I would maybe stay closer to the city next time but if i could pick the hotel up and place it near the harbour i would definitely stay again. Thanks!
(Ps-pay in cash, my mothers card charged her an appaling exchange rate-not the hotels fault but just a tip)

Room Tip: If you like a bath, go for that as it is a better room but there is no shower

Dear KatWarner81

Thank you for posting a review on your recent stay with us.

I am rather pleased to read your positive review. We pride ourselves in offering a personalized and homley feeling for our guests.

Our location is a bit off center - if you are seeking city center. However our location does give our guests the possibility of seeing a non turist side to Copenhagen - Restaurant Klubben, which you mentioned is typical of this.

A bit of advice for future guests. Public Transport functions very well. However many complain about the costs. "Clip cards" can be purchased in all major stations, airport & kiosks. In addition the VisitCopenhagen website can assist in purchasing the 24 or 72 hour Copenhagen card. Both cards entitle you to reduced rates on public transport.

Wishing you a pleasant 2012.

PS - our banana cake is more than likely to become a fixed feature on of breakfast buffet. The recipe is being refined by my nephew & his friends.....trial & error & then perfection.

“What makes a hotel excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

The Bertrams is in an interesting, non-touristy neighborhood, full of nice shops like the fabulous Designer Zoo and restaurants like Les Trois Cochons, yet an easy walk to central Copenhagen. Our room was very comfortable, with a separate seating area, and very comfy bed. More counter space in the bathroom would be helpful. There is a lavish buffet breakfast - too much food for me, so I prefer the lovely restaurant Granola a short walk away. The staff is very helpful with directions and recommendations. While I was there my husband called from home to tell them it was our anniversary and we had to spend it apart, so they put a box of excellent chocolates in the room along with a note. So even though the Bertram's is not ultra-posh, to me that is an excellent hotel.

Room Tip: Superior rooms have a balcony

Dear PhiladelphiaMatilda

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your recent stay with us.

Your review sums up what we are about - good old fashioned hospitality. In addition you in simple terms describe the area we a located in - residential Copenhagen - off the beaten path.

It was a pleasure to host you again after 2 years, and we hope that it's not long before we see you again.

Have a wonderful 2012.

“Ok location, small but interesting rooms.”

I don't understand all the 5 star reviews. Adequate comes to mind. Nice beds, I believe Bali style furnishings. Elevator goes to half floors, walk half flight with bags to your room. Parking is a challenge. My Volvo would not fit in the gate of their lot. Closest secure parking was 3 blocks away. Street parking is sketchy, if even available. Staff was not all that helpful. Staff maintains the neighborhood is safe, but they lock the door from the street to the lobby and do not provide any type electronic or magetic key to open the door. Breakfast is very good.

20 January 2012
Dear Ken C

Thank you for taking the time to provide a review of your recent stay with us and as a senior reviewer your opinion is highly valued by other readers.

You draw the readers attention to some issues which I would like to address:-
1) Parking
2) Security

As an inner city property - we do not have our own parking facilities. The lot you refer to is a neighboring property that belongs to someone else, and we do not have right to recommend or use. We refer to our clients that enquire regarding parking to - the nearby (600 meters) and not 3 blocks - parking facilities on Mathæusgade. Our website also provides instructions as to how you find it. Alternatively there are street side parking facilities, courtesy of the city of Copenhagen (with a fee attached). I fully agree that parking in Copenhagen is horrendous, but see no reason for you to use this as a negative point in your review.

2) You seem to question the safety of the area that we are located in - with reference to our front door being locked. Being in a residential part of Copenhagen, we are not as exposed to crime in the same level as "tourist areas". I would like to point out that Copenhagen as a city has a very low crime level. The reason for the door being locked is the fact that the city of Copenhagen was so kind as to place a bus stop right at our door. A very kind gesture - as we believe in public transport or cycling as opposed to using a car (referring to the previous point). An open door could encourage people who have no business with us to enter.

We have actually introduced a key card system to the front door - implemented in October 2011 - so just after you stayed with us.

Wishing you a pleasant 2012.
