We stayed at the Hotel Alexandra in October 2011 for 4 nights arriving late on a Friday evening and departing on Tuesday morning to travel to Stockholm.
Both being fans of design we chose this hotel above others in Copenhagen due to the design element featured. Upon entering the hotel you immediately see some classic pieces of furniture in the lobby/reception area together with a good collection of design books.
We chose a Classic Danish Design Room which features furniture from a single Danish designer. The room was reasonable size, good comfy bed, small sofa and table and a compact shower room.
The hotel does not make out to be 5 stars and it's not. In my opinion it is a 3 star hotel. The rooms would benefit from a fresh coat of paint and a little modernisation, the bathrooms in particular would benefit from an upgrade.
But that's not the point of staying at Hotel Alexandra. You stay here for your love of Danish design that is not only in each room but is scattered throughout the hotel in the lobby, corridors, etc.
Location is great, it's only a short walk into the main areas of Copenhagen and getting around a city so flat is painfree. Breakfast, whilst not included in our rate, was ok but the restaurant was being refurbished which may had added to the service. We ate out most mornings.
Would I re-visit? It would certainly be a hotel we would consider but there are no doubt other 'design' hotels in Copenhagen that we would possibly go for somewhere else.
