“Good Experience, but Hotel Fox needs a makeover!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I don't want to be too hard on Hotel Fox - the location is wonderful, the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is top notch! However, I really think this hotel has lost both it's sheen and charm.

We chose the Tokidoki room (I'm a fan of this designer), and the decor was really nice and unusual. The bed and furniture covered the Japanese theme as well as the walls. Unfortunately the chipped paint on the wardrobe, the grubbiness of the hotel carpet and the general wear and tear of the lobby/bar area bring the place down. The photos on the website were clearly taken when the hotel was brand new. The bar, breakfast bar and reception area are all-in-one, which might give it that hostel feel. It's not the kind of hotel bar you'd hang out in.

Unfortunately no tea or coffee making facilities in the room - disappointing when it's minus 5 outside, we don't want to pay a fortune for tea/coffee in reception!

Go here for location, a fab breakfast (fresh juice, yoghurt, fruit, and amazing sandwiches and pastries!) friendly staff with welcoming smiles and wonderful tips. But don't expect a waw factor.

Hotel Fox - a lick of paint here and there, new carpets and some new furniture in that lobby would take away the grubiness, so listen to these reviews!

“Lots of potential but dirty and dated”

As mentioned by other reviewers; great idea for a hotel; low cost, original and unique, no fuss.. and there's a huge demand for this kind of hotel in a popular city like Copenhagen, but unfortunately it doesn't live up to expectations.
It doesn't feel clean and is quite used and battered, and if you get a medium room- make sure you don't have any luggage because there's no space at all to put it in the room.
We asked a receptionist where we could go for dinner to try some local cuisine- all she could think of was the in house sushi restaurant- which had incidentally closed at 8:45pm!?
We had friends staying at First Hotel St. Petri and asked her how best to walk there. The receptionist hadn't heard of the hotel, and after she spent 10 minutes on the computer we decided to abandon the request and find our own way.

The Lobby is cool but empty, and with the right marketing/ music/ people could be the hottest place in town, as could the hotel, with the dusty carpets in the rooms removed- fresh paint and staff training.
For the price you're better of staying at one of the local chains instead.

Room Tip: Book a larger room

Dear Guest
In the cities in Europe hotel rooms are always quite small and Hotel Fox is not an exception. Regarding the cleanliness we are very sorry to hear this again, because the hotel is actually cleaned every day and we can assure that it is clean. The hotel was created in 2005 and of course you will notice that it is not newly refurbished. This is probably why some will think that it is not clean.

We are very sorry about your experience with the receptionist. Most people in Copenhagen knows where the hotels in the inner city are situated and of all people, receptionists know about that. We just can't figure out what happened. Please write directly to the General Manager and tell when you stayed clo@hotelfox.dk

Best regards
Hotel Fox / Marie Thyssen

“Great idea, realisation did not work”

I got really excited of the idea of this hotel when I found it from the web. The room with the tent was my favorite. Because I was traveling with my friend we did not take that room but If I was with my boyfriend that would have been my choice. The website was giving a lot to expect but I really should have read these opinions before the visit. The hotel was a great dissapointment. The room was ok to sleep but everything is old and worn, corridors smell for damb and dirty. Only one of the staff was kind and smiled to us. So we did got a GREAT laugh with my friend of our " Design hotel experience". I did not find if the designers were real but I could have done the same at home.

The location was good and the breakfast was fresh and tasty.

“Like an expensive hostel - very worn, bad sleep”

The hotel does not clean the rooms while you are staying there. After 3 nights we had to ask that our rooms be cleaned (and were informed that they normally do not do that) and for them to fill up on toiletries. The pillows were the most uncomfortable we have EVER experienced - filled with lumps. You can hear everything happening in other rooms and in the corridors. The whole hotel is very run-down with holes in sofas and burn marks on bedside tables. The room was very cold. When we asked to change rooms we were told that it would cost us 12 EUR.
Pros: very good location (get a room facing the yard = quiet), kind staff, good sushi restaurant, great breakfast buffet.

“Good location and original”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Having been excited by the beautiful rooms shown on the Hotel Fox website, we were keen to see ours... and at first we were disappointed. It was a typographically presented artistic expression - i.e. writing on the walls. But it grew on us and we were glad of our choice in the end. I guess if a pic on the website attracts you though, its worth asking for that room specifically.

Re: Location - good. Wondering around the corner we found eclectic coffee shops and cafes were gladly spent time in. We could walk where we wanted to go for the most part as well, with the shopping mile a few blocks off, Tivoli a 10 minute walk - and just five or six blocks from two underground/overground stations that took us to/from the airport in 20 mins.

Service was not so great... but not appaling.
