The Savoy Hotel (don’t get fooled by the name) is a mid to low-range hotel located about a 10 minute walk from the central Tivoli gardens and the railway station; and about 30 minutes walk from Nyhaven. As such the location is good for exploring central Copenhagen.
A first tip: The first thing to note is that the entrance is surprisingly hard to find. There is a door with the number 34 on it (the address of the hotel) but that isn’t the right door. Instead, the entrance is next door, and looks something like a shop. The barista at the coffee shop next door told us that people ask her where the hotel is on a daily basis.
The entrance lobby is nicely decorated in Danish style, and there is a pretty staircase up the six floors. The rooms are off a very long corridor, which is strangely cold, about the same temperature as outside.
A second tip: the keys need to be pressed in extra hard in order to open the doors.
The rooms are not very pretty, fairly small, and with paper-thin walls, so bring earplugs. Also, the beds have sprung mattresses that are very soft and bouncy, so if you are sensitive to that (as I am) you will wake up with a sore back. The beds are also quite narrow.
Also, our room had a radiator that blasted so high we had to continuously keep the windows wide open. In principle there was a thermostat on the radiator, but it wasn’t working properly. In fact, the room was a bit tatty; parts of the plastic had come off two plugs, the window latches didn’t work, so they were continuously buffeted back and forth by the wind.
Although the rooms are all facing inwards away from the street, which is great, guests and perhaps staff occasionally smoke in the corridor below, and can be quite loud late at night
Third tip: bring ear plugs.
All rooms come with continental breakfast, served in a tastefully decorated room. The breakfast is fairly simple, bread, ham/cheese/jam + a few cereals and hard boiled eggs. The coffee comes from a machine and is vile. Also, they are very militant about the ending time – in our case the lady came one minute before closing and turned off the coffee machine. We had to insist fairly strongly that she turn it back on as we wanted one last cup (sadly addicted to caffeine), but she made her displeasure pretty clear.
Fourth tip: get your coffee from the coffee shop next door.
Room Tip: higher rooms have less problems with people smoking in the corridor below.

Dear Guest
Thank you for taking time to write a review.
Just a few comments:
We are currently renovating the hotel and heating in the corridors is part of this renovation. So is new digital locks, new windows, an upgrade of the breakfast menu and a total renovation of all rooms incl. new beds. We will finish the renovation by the end of March.
Obviously a guest should have the possibility to have a cup of coffee 2 minutes after closing time in the breakfast room. We will discuss this issue with our staff.
Please let us know which room you were in, so we can fix the heating.
Kind regards
Line Andersen
