“Lovely hotel and great location for short break”

Axel Guldsmeden is located a 5 minute walk from Central Station. The location for central attractions is very good and we did not see any sign of anything too scary about the aforementioned red light area which more or less begins at the end of this street. The hotel and rooms are very comfortable, clean and warm, based on a kind of "Bali" theme (terrible towels!!) Our room faced the front street but it was pretty quiet. Although the room price was reasonable extras in the hotel were pretty expensive with UK exchange rate. The spa is nice but not included (it worked out about £40 and you can only pay per stay - not a daily rate). The breakfast we did not try but it was a buffet costing about £16 per person. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. We would recommend this hotel and Copenhagen as a city to visit.

“Marvellous staff, great hotel, what more could you want?”

Just back from a weekend trip to Copenhagen. Chose this hotel because of Tripadviser comments and we weren't disappointed. Location is great, The breakfast is stunning. The choice of food close by was excellent. The room and bathroom were small but considering the time spent in them can't see how this is a problem. The main foyer / reception area was welcoming and comfy and this is where the staff were outstanding and it is the staff who make this hotel so welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Coffee and tea available 24/7. The guy on in the evening (sorry didn't get your name) had a dry wit but nothing was too much trouble for him. Thanks you made our stay.
Good weekend break and would go back to the Axel and its dragonfly. By the way - great game - spot the dragonfly from curtains to cups!!!
From the hotel you could walk to anywhere in central Copenhagen with ease. We got a Copenhagen card at the airport would definitely not advise anyone to get this in February. Or at least check the benefits and what you might use first - the canal was frozen - no canal trip. Museums were free on Sunday. Tivoli shut. Didn't need to use the bus / metro / boat. We did take a short boat trip just to use the card. All in all paid way, way too much for what we used and this on top of the fact Denmark is expensive for us Scots.

“My hotel of choice in Copenhagen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I was a bit worried about proximity to the main station and the noise as I am a very light sleeper, however the triple glazing and quiet street makes it a perfect place. The room and bathroom are very tastefully decorated and clean however on a small side. We could hear a noise from the corridor as other guests were leaving so it would help if there was a door separating a bedroom from the rest of the apartment. We didn't seem to have neighbours on either side of our room so I cannot comment on how thin the walls actually are. The people working in the hotel as in Copenhagen in general, are very friendly and helpful. In fact, there was nothing I didn't like about this place, maybe wish it was a bit bigger, but it is what it is. We are planning to come back to Copenhagen in summer and it will be our hotel of choice.

“Pretty neat place to stay in Copenhagen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Location : The first draw is its proximity to the Copenhagen main train station. The station is a 5-7 minute walk from the hotel and this can be very useful if you plan to travel by the trains a lot. It is also a 5 minute walk from the Tivoli Gardens. The main station also has a bus stop where you can board buses to all the different parts of the city.
On the other hand, it's in the middle of the erstwhile red-light area and there are some questionable night clubs around the place. But while I was at the Axel, I faced no safety issues and I've heard that the area is now quite a nice one to be in.

Rooms : Very neat Balinese style rooms with very clean bathrooms. Extremely comfortable and no problems at all.

Staff and Service : They're friendly and very helpful. I was travelling solo and had no idea about the city, everything was done by reading a map. These guys really helped with finding out which buses to take while going to any specific destination, timings of the airport bound trains and so on. Also, helped out with an early check-in when it was snowing outside and I was desperate to just check in to the room and crash. The kitchen staff is also very good, and make delightful coffee and hot chocolate which save you during the harsh winters! :)

Breakfast : Quite a good spread; However, it costs 169 DKK, and in my opinion, somewhat overpriced.

Overall rating : Nice deal !

“Best affordable hotel in CPH”

I've stayed at this place several times on business trips to Copenhagen. I don't know how they do it at the rates they charge, but these guys just get everything right. Comfort, delicious food, unique atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff. I don't even look for other hotels in CPH now.
