This hotel/apartment is located in what appears to be an up and coming neighbourhood. It is a stone's throw from the river and most of the surrounding area is recently-built residential housing, but venture in the opposite direction and there is a bus depot and some industrial looking areas. The city centre is a 25-30 minute walk away and about 10-15 minutes by the one bus that serves the area (bus stop just outside the hotel; get a Klippekorte for multiple trips). The waterbus doesn't seem to go as far as the hotel any more.
The reception staff were polite and helpful, although we did find the slightly open plan arrangement a bit perplexing. Reception is open from morning till 11pm. Check-in isn't allowed until 3pm, but we were able to leave our bags in the lounge area (didn't feel very secure, but took our valuables with us anyway). The lounge area was pleasant enough and you can enjoy a complimentary drink there with a voucher given to you at the time of check-in.
The room was essentially a bright and roomy studio apartment with a clever layout that means the kitchen facilities can't be seen from the bed and vice versa. It was clean on arrival and was also cleaned day 2 of our 3 day stay. There was a large TV and plenty of seating for lounging around. No complaints about the bed or bedding. However, there were a few niggles that seemed to irritate us disproportionately. For a fairly new build, some of the finish was a bit disappointing: one of the light switches was a bit loose, not dangerously so, but you had to push hard to turn off the lights; one light could not be turned off and had to be dimmed to a minimum at night; the sliding door to the bathroom had lost the metal cap that fitted into the depression that you put your fingers into to slide it; the shower, in theory, could alternate between the overhead shower and a rail-mounted showerhead that could be also be hand held, but the lever to switch between the two was broken. There was no shower curtain, so water tended to splash on to the floor behind and pooled in a little puddle just inside the bathroom door (so wet feet if you forgot about it). I am not that bothered about toiletries when travelling, but my wife thought they weren't the best quality. You get a complimentary tea/coffee, but there was only one tea bag and one hot chocolate, neither of which were replenished after the first day.
Below the hotel, in the same building, is an organic supermarket, a bakery and some sort of take-away. There weren't many other shops within close walking distance, so not much choice. Breakfast is available for Kr. 95, but we chose to make our own breakfast.
In the past we have got some interesting hotel accommodation living a bit further from the city centre. Although bright and spacious, we didn't really fall in love with the place.
Room Tip: View of river would have been nicer.
