Rather unusual for a use as a business stay, but worked out fine. In seperate buildings for bedrooms, but all clean and in order. Internet was a bit dodgy. Evening dinner was fine, staff friendly.

We stayed at Hotel Svanen in august 2010.
This is _not_ a 4-star hotel, but a motel with max 2 stars.
Our room was small, cold and the beds were poor.
The bathroom was ice cold, and it wasn't until day two we found the switch to turn om the heat in the room - on the floor, behind the door...

The breakfast was boring, no bacon, fried eggs or anything else out of the common 2-star hotel breakfast.

The second evening we stayed at the hotel, there were someone celebrating their wedding in the hotel.
The door in and out from the room of the party was in the middle of the motelrooms.
So we had two choices, either to have no air in the room and get no sleep, or open the window and hear the noise from the party all night and get no sleep.
Unacceptable when you are on a holiday with small children!

Stay away from this hotel!
Hotel Propellen or Hotel Legoland is much better!

This hotel is located next to Legoland, Lalandia and the airport. Billund isn't very interesting, but if you want to have a hotel for a night or two, this will do. Anyway - hotels in Denmark are just way too expensive compared to other countries and Hotel Svanen is no exception...

We stayed a single night for an early flight next morning. We were given a room in the old wing. Asked for one of the renovated rooms, but were told that wasn't possible, despite there only being five to ten other guests that day.

The room was small and poorly furnished. The sheets smelled like old cigarettes. It was a no smoking room, so it didn't make sense, but it was what it was. My wife had a rash the next morning on her arms, hands and feet where she hadn't been covered by clothing, so maybe the sheets were just unwashed. The room was cold and damp and there was no heating or ventilation. There was also no hot water for showering in the morning.

All in all this experience compared to an early 90s Eastern European youth hostel, which is entirely unacceptable alongside the 160 euro price tag, as well as the (alleged) four stars. We can discuss different people's different expectations for value vs money, but that argument doesn't really apply here.

These problems are so fundamental and unacceptable, even for the cheapest rooms (which aren't that cheap, really), even for a single night.

The location near the airport is fine, but there are other hotels nearby that are preferable.
Hotel Propellen, about 100 meters further up the road, is one of them, and offers a higher standard at the same price.
