I stayed at the Scandic Plaza for 3 weeks while attending a course there. So I got to know it fairly well and I think they did a terrific job for the setting I was in. I didn‘t pay for it myself and thus had no expecations in relations to the price, but overall, I had was very content and had a pleasant stay. My room was one of the renovated ones. It wasn‘t big but it was clean and cosy and the bathroom was spacious. I had a peek into one of the old-style rooms and it certainly seemed a bit seedier.
My first impression when I arrived was that a little bit a touch up was needed. The lobby is quite small and the entrance no exactly grand, however, during the course of 3 weeks it all came to feel quite homey to me, not least thanks to the wonderful staff. To cut to the chase: The two best things about the Scandic Plaza are the very central location, and the very friendly, helpful staff. Here goes the list:
Pros:
-Located right next to the central train station, easy to find upon arrival and walking distance to downtown.
-Friendly, helpful staff which was willing to go the extra mile makes for a good atmosphere.
-The restaurant was good. We ate lunch there almost every day, not á-la-cart but pre-ordered and it was (almost) always very tasty and fresh.
-Bed was comfortable, albeit small (90 cm) and the room always clean.
-The sauna in the basement was good.
-Conference facilities were good, internet connection and all the technical aspects worked fine and on the rare occasion a problem came up the staff were there immidately to help.
-It‘s a very green, eco-friendly hotel which I truly appreciated.
Cons:
-The gym in the basement is tiny with a very low ceiling, no windows and only one treadmill.
-The rooms facing the main-street suffer from traffic-noise.
-The laundry service is very expensive (but there‘s a laundromat close by)
-My room had been renovated but not, it seems, the bathroom. It was spacious enough but you could see that it was a bit old.
There‘s a new Scandic "City“ Hotel opening in Aarhus this summer. Something to keep in mind if you prefer to have everything new. But I‘d still recommend the Scandic Plaza for a pleasant, low-key stay.
I‘d also like to recommend the ARos art museum. It's within 5 minutes walking distance from the hotel. Go there! The rainbow is spectacular!
