I came here on business and expected European standards (spare and small). but I would have been delighted with this hotel anywhere. Everything about my room was perfect, from the spaciousness to the location to the style to the conveniences. The Hotel Royal is the class act in Arhus (Aarhos, Aros, etc), and college and port town in the Jutland region of Denmark. It is clean, prosperous, picturesque, and expensive. The Hotel Royal is located directly across from the Arhus Domkirke, the church with the largest steeple in Denmark. I loved my room (#308) facing the church and belltower but note that the bells do ring regularly and loudly - didn't bother me but it might bother some. The large room was painted an unusual shade of burnt orange with a rose hue to it and flat white trim. It offered tea and coffee amenities and a minibar, a good writing desk with spotty and so-so wireless connection. the bathroom was spacious, with a huge deep tub, separate shower, gold trim on the porcelain and fixtures, and a matching bidet. The bed was marvelously comfortable and done Scandinavian style, of course. The hotel service was excellent all the way around, my chicken sandwich from room service was delicious - so fresh and tasty - and I enjoyed the view of the church and top of the ships in harbor. The weather was quite pleasant while I was there too - high 60s and a little rain. I found the Danes to be most hospitable and friendly, and adored the local history (being something of a history nut). Take a moment even if you do not stay there to view the murals and portraits painted within. They are spectacular in scope, a stylish combination of history and art. Would I go back there? In a flash.
