“really nice and chic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2010

A really nice hotel, situated in the old city of xanthi, at a very good location when it comes to nightlife. The accomodation is new ,the rooms are comfortable, clean and decorated in a minimal style. The staff is helpfull.
The only two things considered negative are:
Though the bathroom is roomy and stylish, water is licking at the floor when having a shower because the doors do not close perfectly.
The cafeteria where breakfast is served is nice, and the buffet satisfactory enough, but some of the pastry cold.
I stayed there twice, and will stay again for sure.

“Good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2010

Very nice hotel compared to usual Greek hotels in terms of decoration (especially the bathroom), breakfast quality and general atmosphere. But beware: if you arrive at night, there is no English speaking person at reception and the suite is not worth paying twice (if you need the extra beds, get two rooms instead for the same price).

“Nice hotel, right in the city's centre.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2010

I stayed there twice, during business trips. I liked this hotel during my first stay in the winter, so I chose it over my usual hotel when I went to Xanthi again, in July. A mistake.
First things first. The hotel is small but tidy - It makes you feel good. It was redecorated two years ago and it shows, with the possible exception of soundproofing. The small rooms are clean with little furniture, which I don't mind, a balcony and a modern bathroom with all the necessary cosmetics plus an unexpectedly soft bathrobe. The bed is big and comfortable (with strangely too big and hard pillows), there is an LCD TV (with limited choice of stations) and of course free Wi Fi. An absolute necessity for me these days. The breakfast unfortunately is seriously below par. I expect much more at any price, let alone at Elisso's prices.
The hotel is located very close to "the vibrant heart of the city". Too close. It's fine if your business is at the centre of the city or the old town. Everything is a short walk away. Unfortunately my business associates are out of the city, so I have to use my car. At least I can go out on foot, after my meetings. The city is full of life with a blend of Greek local colour and oriental influences, most evident in the cuisine. Most of the restaurants have something interesting to offer, the food is generally adequate, tasty and affordable. There are also lots of bars, cafes etc. There are many choices for going out, not only on weekends. All this in walking distance from the hotel.
Now, why did I say staying there was a mistake? Because I'm a light sleeper, that's why! It's OK in the winter, but during summer, when everyone is outside it can be bothersome. Greek people are not silent types, even more so after a few drinks. The music, the crowds, the noise can go on until late in the night. And I don't go to bed too early. That's my main concern. You either like being close to all the people, the bars, the noise etc or you don't. However, a few drinks can take care of the noise issue...

“Very nice stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2008

We stayed at Hotel Elisso for two nights to attend a wedding from friends. Their family reserved the hotel for us, and we must say we were very pleased with the hotel. The hotel is in front of the university and is very near to the centre and especially the old centre, which is very nice. The hotel is quite popular for buisinessmeetings and congresses, we noticed. The standard rooms are not very big, but spacious enough, nicely, modern (coco-mat) furbished and very clean. The bathroom was clean and also modern. The bed was very comfortable. We paid 80 euro's a night, which might have been discounted, as a lot of people from the weddingparty were staying there... The rooms are quite soundproof, we didn't hear other guests at all. The only thing that might wake you are the rumours from the nearby cafes and lounge-clubs which are crowded with students, if you are a very sensitive sleeper, but we were not bothered by this at all. (and if you shut the door (to the balcony) you don't hear a thing.
The town is pretty vibrant itself, and the bar at the hotel was nice enough to lounge in their sofa's and drink some frappe's or a wine. The breakfst was Ok. (We did not care so much for all the sweet breads...but hey, that's just what you're used to...) Staff was helpfull and friendly. Lots of very nice (inexpensive) restaurants to eat out.
